If I get one, this is the one I want.

It's about $500.00 with one set of dies. You can buy dies for everything from pipe to square tubing.

I want one so bad I can't stand it. I'm gonna start thinking up projects my buddies could use it for.

I know the cost of tubing. But I've priced sliders and stinger hoops etc. A tubing bender can pay for itself.

The bender I'm building uses any pro-tools model 105 dies. Round/square tube, or pipe. Including the die it will end up being about $500 total. And that will be upgrading to an air/hydraulic ram so the air compressor can do all the work. :D

Here's a few more pics.

One shows cut out rear quarter panel.

One is of my slave cylinder bracket I had to make. Had to go on the drivers side for the chevy bellhousing.

One is the hole where I'm starting my Saginaw power steering conversion.

Started wiring everything back last night. Installed brake master cylinder and clutch master cylinder.

Started on my fan shroud.

Ups Visisted

Got a present from UPS today. My new Blue Torch Fab steering arms.

They are sweet. All machined caps. No more stamped kingpin caps.

Look those guys up sometime. www.bluetorchfab.com

Cut off rear axle perches to get better pinion angle. Had a little misalignment with a spring too. All fixed now.

Welded up plate for power steering. Got all holes drilled and spacers welded on plate.

Got several body mounts on.

Mounted one bogger backwards. Didn't think about mounting them opposite when I bolted on the beadlocks. Oh well, I'll go back and fix.

Got some mis-alignment spacers from Blue Torch Fab. So front end should be all bolted up tonight.

I've located a tubing bender to borrow. So I will be doing my cage.

Hopefully in about two weeks, I'll be rollin.

Closer and Closer

Will be ordering driveshafts tomorrow. Local shop only takes about a day. Will be buying tubing for cage this weekend, or ordering from Metal Tech. I change my mind just about every other day.

Could be rolling next weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Put in 4 degree shims in front to angle pinion. That's all bolted up now. Drilled out buggy leafs for 9/16 bolts. So hopefully they will be strong enough now. Got my 3/8" thick shackles put on to replace the 1/4" ones I used to fab up.

Shocks hoops built, shocks mounted.

Haven't done much real picture worthy lately.

Final stuff takes forever and you don't really show any progress. Body mounts, brake lines, crap like this takes me forever.

My full blown panic date is 9/15. I am quickly approaching that. That is when I start begging friends for help.

Picking up tubing for cage

I am taking off 1/2 day today to go pick up tubing for cage.

Also picking up driveshafts today.

Went with 1 3/4" .120 DOM for cage $3.80 per foot.
1 1/4" .120 DOM for ladder bars $3.35 per foot.

Got a bunch of work to do this weekend.

Got driveshafts today

Went and picked up driveshafts today.

Long travel front with about 18 inches of spline.

Getting closer.

Waiting on correct steering u joint. Will be here Friday hopefully.

Got to finish up brake lines. Picked up some hard brake lines and rubber lines this morning. Should get that done this week.

Hopefully will have about a week to test and tune before my first ride.

BTF makes VERY nice stuff.

Right on..

Blue Torch

BTF does have some good stuff.

Local parts store had my driveshafts made for me.

Saved me some $$$$$$. About $200 on the front shaft alone.

Got running this weekend, but still no brakes. Stainless brake lines from Russell should be here today.

Typical stuff. Clutch will not disengage. Need cast fork arm (Thanks Woody)

Transfer case leaking out front output. This parts store gave me the wrong seal.

Saginaw box is leaking at the input seal. May just get a reman. Don't know yet.

Decided to go with electric fan, ordered it today from Jegs, should be here Wednesday.

Ordered borgeson collapsible shaft today too from Jegs. I had never thought about what flexing the Cruiser out will affect that.

I only have one more weekend to work. That sucks, it's gonna be close.

Travel

Actually has 24 inches of splines instead of the 18 I thought. I have enough I can some splines off and have a spare driveshaft. I only needed about 10 inches of travel. I may rummage the junkyard and fine a chevy front driveshaft and make me a spare.

I had been quoted $500.00 for a 10" travel driveshaft. I gave $320.00 on that one ready to bolt in. But for another $100.00, I can have two shafts with more travel than the $500.00 shaft.

10 days

10 days No doubt. I was stressed yesterday, but I feel better. I started my roll cage last night. First bend is the hard one. Took about two hours and 1/2 case of beer for us all to agree on how to bend the rear hoop. Well we never really agreed, just two of us. But it looks good and now we know how to do it.

I still have a bunch of crap to do.

1. Get clutch working, I think I have located an arm. This means pulling transmission/xfr tonight.

2. Finish up brake lines. Stainless steel lines were supposed to be here yesterday.

3. Get another steering box bought and mounted. Will drill and tap for ram if I have time. I've already got the mounts and the ram, just need some time.

4. Finish up cage.

5. Front output on transfer case is leaking. Parts store gave me the wrong seal. Not my regular parts guy.

6. Mount and wire up electric fan. Supposed to be here tomorrow.

I will be there next weekend. For sure positive. I will just lay out of work all week if I have to. I've got a few vacations days left.

JR, could you post up some pics of the rear spring set-up?
i'm kinda think'n(there i go again) bout doin the buggy spring set-up like yours
was also wondering if you are able to keep that spring from dropping, say when going down hill,so the rear end doesnt pull up on ya...
