well now all the hard stuff is mostly behind you.... must be exciting.

A couple more of the angle grinder with the wheel marked, and the housing, cut, turned, the cuts widened with a grinding wheel, and tacked into place!
My home boy "COOTER" is dropping by later to weld it all up, as I dont trust my 110 unit to penetrate well enough.

Keith: I thought you were going to get the MM175?

Great tech, great pics. No one is laughing man, specially me. We make do with what we have and improvisation is the salvation.

Hey Dylan, you're real close to me. I also have a blue 60 and would like mine to look like yours. I'd love to check it out. PM ya?

Hey Dan,
That is the plan to get the Miller...
Waiting till after the holidays though and see where the finances are. I cant let the progress stop till then though, cuz I still need to run the 220 power.
Im home in Chicago right now, so all pregress has stopped, but at least when I get home, Ill be able to get that axel back in!

Thanks for the vote of confidence gents!
Its much appreciated!
I tend to get a bit "antsy" when I have too much down time, and Im forced to look at the project and think about it.
Im glad I went through with it too. I was feeling REALLY defeated that I was pussing out.
NOW, hopefully I set everything right to where shell track right!

YODA,

your rig looks sweet...I'm about to go SOA on my 62 as well and will be running 36 TSL's...so I have a few questions:

A) Did you go SR? (Looks like not from the pics but hard to tell for sure)
B) Are those stock 62 springs? (Looks like it)
C) Get any rubbing at full stuff with the 36's?

Thx

Brett

a) no
b)yes, they are very flat and flexible.
c) yes, but not a lot. mostly on the front. i am running 2in spacers all a round.

do a lot of research before you start. this is a good thread to start with.

thanks
Charles

Yoda88,
thanks for the pics bro! Looks bad ass!
Where about did you mount the shock tower on the DS? how far off the steer box?
I cant wait to get mine up and rollin.
Looks great with the 36's...Im on the fence between those tires and 35's. Desert rat has a package deal...35x12.5 in, wildcat MTRs and 15x10 rock crawler rims for 800.00. As the budget has gone out the window, I might be going with those. I have 15x 8 in rims...but Im not sure if those will work with 35" plus tires....
How do you like the spacers? 2 in seems pretty wide? Is that what is causing the rub in the front? Deiselcruiserhead went with 1 in spacer all around, and that is what I might end up doing...

Looks great!
thanks for sharing!

If you go with 12.5" wide tires go with 8" rims or you have a better chance of blowing tire beads. If you want the width then get 2.5 BS 8" wide rims. Search on here and any other tru offroading site and you will find out more detailed info.

The rims are backspaced and 10 in wide.

There is around an inch or two between the steering and shock tower. A little tight to stick weld in.

The tires could be a good deal. I have no idea how much those tires run new, but the rims are around $40 a piece

With 37s and no spacers the rubbage would be horrible on the inside of the inner wheel wells (front and rear). the rear wells with 31s and no offset rubbed a lot. With the spacers and offset rims there is no or little rubbing of the rear wheel wells. The diameter of the tire in relation to the wheel well is the reason why the tire is rubbing. in other words, you cant stuff a 40in tire in a 25in wheel well.

AHHH! I see! So the spacers are not only to widen the stance...

Ive heard that the 2.5 in BS rims are rather difficult to find...? I havent done too much investigation on this, but it is what Ive heard.
I was running 32's, with 1/4 in spacers and 15x8's with 3.75 in BS with NO RUB...Its weird that some people can get away with things and others cant.

i was told that you can order a specific backspacing on the rims from places like 4 wheel parts. when i ran 33x12.5s on 15x8's, the rear wheel wells got rubbed pretty bad. Every car is different.

Keith,

2.5" BS wheels arent hard to get...any 4WP or Central4wd shop will usually have them in stock (Black rock crawlers). BTW...I'm totally impressed that youre doing this project by yourself...youve made great progress so far. can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done:)

Thanks for the props Brett! Quite a compliment coming from you.
Its a CRASH course in learning my rig...
Ive found that I had NO BUSINESS wheeling that rig without knowing what exactly is in those axels/ knuckles...If I busted something, Id have been SCREWED!!! This experience is worth it just for that knowledge, if not for anything else!!!
Quite honestly, Im pretty impressed with myself for doing this on my own...However, the mud members and retailers have been LIFE SAVING...Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters has gotten many a phone call from me, and hes taken a lot of time talking me through some of the finer details of the process...
Im looking forward to wheeling with you this summer when yours is done too. Im really interested in your manual swap as I might do the same thing when my tranny eventually dies!
Ill be locked in the rear and have better articulation and clearance, so Now maybe I wont have to THROTTLE over the rocks as I did last year. I REALLY HATED doing that!!!! I CANT afford the longs right now, so the front diff is staying open and Im going to stick with 35's for the time being...It wont be EVERYTHING that I wanted, but Im excited none the less!

Keith

Keith,
That setup will get you a long way. Keep up the good work.
