Picked up a 1991 this past weekend.

The good:
-One owner truck, 170k miles
-Has been periodically started and moved around since sitting.
-appears to be complete and original

The bad :
-some rust spots
-front bumper damage (excuse for a new bumper)

Fuel tank was drained/evaporated so I added gas and a battery and it fired right up, drove around, brakes are horrible. I replaced the belts, all fluids, and rebuilt rear brakes. It’s driving but close to overheating and has electrical gremlins. I removed the grandpa front bumper, steps will follow.

A couple things... They didn't make a 90 so it's either a 91 or a 92. Second, I hope you had one of the driveshafts out when you towed it.. AWD vehicles don't like to be towed like that.

Otherwise looks like a good start. What's the plan?

Manufactured feb 1990, guess it’s a 91? And yes I removed the rear driveshaft. For now the plan is to get it repaired and running, the interior is pretty rough. Someone tried to steal it at some point so it needs a new ignition and the plastic trim pieces that surround the wheel. It has some electrical gremlins so that will be on the list as well. I’ll probably get a different front bumper since that one is already damaged. Plan is to drive it and enjoy it but that usually goes off the rails pretty quickly.

Vin lookup says 91. Cheers, probably saved my a lot of headaches ordering parts online for an fj62 haha

Thanks guys, I’m very happy with it. The only reason I bought it was because i couldn’t turn it down for the price, also I do like a project. I removed the side steps because I hate them.

Started cleaning up the interior a bit. Used about a gallon of plastic restorer, steam cleaned the seats (only passenger seat in the pic). Someone tried to steal this truck at some point and destroyed the trim pieces on the dash in the process so I superglued them together, reinforced with epoxy, then reinforced with fiberglass on the back, fine filler and paint to follow.

Here is my continued effort to save the dash trim. I was too impatient and sprayed too much high fill primer before the plastic primer was dry so now I have a topographical map all of it, so back the sanding pad it is.
