Gave the old trail gear rear bumper a fresh coat of tractor paint and powder coated the air cleaner and “carb” fan housing.

Turns out the later model frame has extra captive nuts in the rear frame section that are in the way of the trail gear bumper mounts, will have to drill those out to install it. Took the front end bodywork off to paint the engine bay and drill out some broken bolts and do a bit of welding.

Hood prep for paint, I like to prop the hood against a wall and run a few beads of rtv silicone between the skeleton and the sheet metal on top. In all of the trucks I’ve seen with the skeleton frame underneath, the factory adhesive is long gone so this helps support the sheet metal.
Sprayed the repaired battery tray with some flat black.

I’ve used seam sealer in the past and found it doesn’t handle the temp cycling and movement of the hood very well. It always came undone. Maybe I didn’t use enough or maybe the hood was stressed when I applied it
. I’ve been using rtv for a while now and I like it much better. If the paint looks like garbage on the silicone it will be covered with the hood insulator pad.

Buttoning up odds and ends and getting the fluids filled. One thing I’ve noticed since I’m using an fz frame is it has all the same holes for mounting the fuel lines and fuel filter but is missing almost all of the necessary captive nuts in the frame. The fz fuel filter mounts to the engine so it makes since, going to try to install some rivnuts without pulling the drivetrain for space .
