This is where they finally caught the Toyota Engineer in charge of cupholders for the 80 series...... he was obsessed with driving golf balls into the water over the plant. Toyota realized the cupholder design wasnt finished and would need to be deleted from the 80......he was eventually reassigned to the FJ cruiser......and we know how that story went.

If Toyota wasn't supremely confident about the durability of that power train, they would NOT put a Land Cruiser nameplate on the vehicle.
I agree. It HAS been tested and I think when people get a taste of the EV portion of the hybrid powerplant offroad they are all going to change their tune. Also, good seeing you guys, been a while :)

What you are seeing is just one manufacturing line— the BOF line.

Tahara operates 3 complete manufacturing lines.

The place is the size of a city. It’s massive with its own dedicated port facility….

I think it still stands though generally.

4Runner = 150k units.
LC300 + LC150 + LC70 + LX600 + GX460 = <400k.

With 4 other production lines building some of the LC group and the other operating line building other stuff, the math probably works out to 4Runner being around 75% of the production on that line. That appears pretty consistent with the videos.

I don't know the margins - but it's no wonder that the LC250 is a lot closer in form to the 4Runner than it is to the Prado.

Wholeheartedly agree. My wife has a Highlander Hybrid with CVT. She wanted it so she got it but I told myself there’s no way I’m ever going to like driving a CVT hybrid. Drove it a few times and the torque from the electric motors coupled with the imperceptible engine starts is nothing short of amazing. Now take that tech and roll it into off-roading in pure EV mode??? Sign me right up. I don’t think people realize how much more enjoyable and really how noticeable it is when the engine drone isn’t there.

O.K. no real dog in this fight, but I have owned Toyota's for a long-long time. I'm looking forward to this GX550/LC250 coming out as my wifes 1999 LC is well broken in (but still very tight) after 325,000 miles and I'm thinking she deserves an upgrade after driving this vehicle for 20 years. I'm hoping to put her into a 2025 version of this platform.

Also, I'll leave this quote here. As a fellow mechanical/systems engineer, I've seen plenty of opinions without any real world experience. I'll hedge my bets on someone who has been there, done that.

A man with an experience is never at the mercy of a man with an opinion. - Pastor L. H. Hardwick.

Not sure if anyone else noticed this (or cares), and it may have already been discussed but I didn't see it, but Lexus updated their Pre-Order Guide for the 550 recently. I had downloaded the original version back in June (which interestingly enough, was originally called "MY23-Lexus-GX-POG" instead of MY24) and I compared it to the new version and there are a few changes. As much of a GX nerd as I am, I mainly looked at the model comparison page - not the entire brochure.
Last page of original version was P4-7665 (06/23), newer version: P4-7665v2 (11/23).

Changes:
GX Premium - old version said "Interior ambient illumination" and now says "Ambient illumination", options now include Wireless phone charger
GX Premium+ - options added SmartAccess card key under Digital Key
GX Luxury - Towing capacity increased from 6990 lb to 7145 lb, added SmartAccess card key under Digital Key
GX Luxury+ - Towing capacity increased from 6780 lb to 6955 lb, added SmartAccess card key under Digital Key
GX Overtrail - options now include Wireless phone charger, Without moonroof
GX Overtrail+ - options added SmartAccess card key under Digital Key, Without moonroof

There are a few more details I noticed are different, including the disclaimers on the last page - one that caught my eye was it now says "...Android Auto requires a compatible Android 11.0+ phone..." so I'm thinking older phones are not going to work. Other thing of note (that I saw), they added #19 in the updated POG to talk about the engine immoblizer.

This change (moonroof delete in Overtrail and Overtrail+ is great news. Hoping that some configured that way actually make it here. RX and NX and others come without a moonroof occasionally so I'll hold on to my hope.

Apologies. Read it all wrong. Late in the day-itis. You are correct.
Geez Beno, you nearly made me cry thinking I would have to wait almost a year!

Do you, or anyone you know have an idea when prices would typically come out for new models? I would think if we are 3-4 months away from landing, and we know they are in production now, Toyota must have a MSRP dialed in?

Tacomas are expected to arrive in January. I believe the MSRP has been announced but the Toyota website still doesn't have a configurator live. I ssupect that Toyota knows what the MSRP will be, but when they will announce it is something entirely different...

Tacoma MSRP for all but Pro and TH are all over the net.

I really want to wait to see what the prices will look like on the 1958 before I commit to anything, but if they are more than $10k more than a ORP 4Runner, I feel like the ‘runner will probably be the next vehicle. I could justify spending more if the fuel economy made up a bit of money, but with Toyota back pedalling to 23 mpg at best, and my neighbor with a ‘21 TRD PRO 4Runner getting 22 mpg, there doesn’t seem to be much room there anymore. It’s not ALL about the numbers, but at least some of it has to be…

Where did Toyota say 23 MPG at best? The only official information still says 8.7 L/100 km estimate (27 MPG). Furthermore the 2021 4Runner is rated at 17 MPG, not 22. I don't think it will take much to offset the price difference.

My dealership just called to tell me there’s been a delay on the first batch of GX 550’s due to QC issues. He told me this pushed the first round of deliveries by about 2 months, to April.

Anyone else hearing anything similar?
