While I wait to find a brake booster... progress! I took off the top and started busting any rust I saw. Surprisingly.. not much!! The seal was even good!! Next is the top panels and the checking of those seals, then painting again.

That top does look to be in good shape, I have 1 more lid more to restore too. I have a SEM gun you can borrow if you go that route. Presto pin to shim the ambi door latch handle, I like it. Something to think about when you do the new booster install, add a port on that hose for an in cab vacuum gauge. They sure are handy on a carbed engine.

Ok. Taking of the sides now.. is there a trick? I was told there’s a locking screw, and I see where one was, but nothing. All bolts are removed that I can find.. fixed this problem.....

You are trying to remove the hardtop sides correct? Could be moisture has caused the stake pocket to get tight or the seal/weatherstripping on the tub rail is sticking. Might try removing the rear door header and wiggle the hardtop sides to break the bond. If your rig was re-painted, could be paint wasn't fully cured when they set hardtop sides back on. So that may cause hardtop sides to seem glued in place.

Things are moving! Got the sides of, busted some minor rust, started painting the little paint I’ll do on the body. Good stuff. I got a notice that my parts from city racer have shipped, but I found more buggered up seals, so there’s another order in. I did find what’s left of a cool old oem sticker on my jump seats.

It’s all painted, new body seals thanks to city racer, put back together and new brake booster in. I’m still testing it out to check if the leak is gone. The braking power is awesome now. Lol

Ok, a lot has happened. I deinstalled the rear heater until the core is fixed, but ran a bypass to the front so I still have heat. (It still gets a bit chilly every now and again down here...) I got new seat covers from Cruiser Corp for Black Friday. They are installed. I refreshed and painted the front end bits. Including the old grill emblem. (Little before and after) And lastly I’ve sent my carb off to Marks Off-road!!

I’ve been suspicious that my steering linkages are not original. But I know it’s a power steering conversion, so I wasn’t too worried. Then I was looking threw @gcrump01 build tread and he accidentally has a beautiful picture of a complete oem steering setup in a power steering equipped 40!! Thank you!! So I started looking... sure enough more PO tomfoolery... the reason the steering dampener is cobbled on is because someone welded the original location closed......🤦‍♂️

Bummer. Although it isn’t uncommon to see these larger dampers bolted on like this as an “upgrade”.

I say get some new TRE’s, rebuild your centering arm, and come up with a better/permanent solution for the steering damper. It’s looks a bit cramped with the steering linkage and leaf spring...
