Unless someone removed them the heat shields should be there unless someone removed them. Both of them bolted to the tub. Routing the exhaust above the skid plate will add to the floor but there was no additional OEM heat shield because Toyota figure the skid plate would serve as a heat shield. I remember a heat shield that bolted directly into the exhaust but checked and that is 1/79+ on the pipe behind the CAT before going back over the frame. Seems that was only on FJ40 with a CAT which run a hotter exhaust which is not a problem on a 77.

I’ll need to look for some. My heat shields are not installed. I didn’t receive any in my spare parts bins either.

I’ve noticed driving around town that my brakes are a lot firmer since the carb rebuild and exhaust. I still think things are running a little rough, but I’m not sure how to fix it.. idle is amazing and it has power. It just sounds off. Like a tractor. One step at a time I guess.

Big chunk of the re-smog is done! Thanks to @pardion !! I still need one check valve off of my HAC valve, and I can’t find my air pump(?) for the air system... it’s at the bottom of the engine, forward, left side. Also, I have a Saginaw power steering reservoir/pump but a mini truck power steering box. Can I replace the Saginaw for a Toyota pump?

All vacuum lines are in! All smog/air system are in! Still missing the last check valve... but it doesn’t seem to matter... new speedometer cable in and lithium greased! New housing, needle, and lithium grease on gauge cluster in and working properly!!! Boys and girls! I’m back on the road! Went for a little drive to get gas. Cowboy still felt a little wonky, but strong. Now I need leaf springs and a carb tune. 🤩 almost 100%!!! Even cleaned the back! Plus if cruiser corp comes threw, I’ll have a headliner!

hi seth

i see a single pin white connector just un-pluged on your carb air horn ?

fuel cut solonid maybe ?

I’ve been working with my Toyota mechanics to get cowboy sorted out. We fixed the distributor, and vacuum advance and have been adjusting the carb and timing, but it looks like the carb is out next culprit.. i had it rebuilt less than a year ago, but the main jet is just puking our fuel now.. does anyone know where to buy replacement jets?

You should have alternative sized spare jets screwed into the back side of the main and secondary service plugs

Most are not aware of this perk that toyota thought of when they we’re still creative and inspiring ...

I will say this 💯 % of 2F carbs left Plant A11 with
Spare alternative sized orface jets

if there missing , some PO removed them ....

I have a small sealed plastic Tupperware cup full
Of OEM jets Seth

Please PM me or call my SHOP Hot Line today

Spec. Me your orface diameter and I’ll see if we have a winner ....

I have been collecting OEM jets since high school

good Chance I will have some for you

Progress update. Cleaned and painted the rear step… wrong bolt pattern. Oh well. I can fix that… next I took the passenger fenders in to get straightened out. The other is a bit rougher. I’ve found out there is a bit of Bondo and hidden dents on the drivers fender so I’m exploring that. Also washed the roll bar headrest pieces i have. I still need one more curved piece to complete the set!

got the last of the bondo off!!! Now I can see the actual damage. It needs a few welds, and it needs hammered out. Luckily a friend at work let me use his hammer and dolly kit. It is surprisingly easy. I feel like I made some good progress for my first time.
