NLXTACY...cost on the Toyota red aside. Did your guys at the machine shop and K&H say why they suggested not using the red coolant.

Both feel that the red contributes to the failure of the headgasket. There is no scientific info to back it up, just the dozens and dozens of motors they rebuild. That being said, I am NOT running am OEM HG, I'm using Cometic.

^^^very interesting. For some reason I have never heard/read this before. I hear the opposite more often than not.

Thanks.

From what I can tell there is no clearance issue on the bottom.

Mine is already trimmed so it is hard to tell. It I believe at higher RPMs the blades flex into the lower shroud. CDan is who told me to trim the shroud before installing the fan. IIRC it is from a 3.0L 4Runner.

With that said it was some time ago and there may be a newer recommendation that doesn't interfere.

Correct. I used the fan that TOOLS and CDAN recommended. It just looks small in the space. I will post pics in a few.

FWIW the recommendations are not the same. I was the first to purchase a p/n 16361-61020 for my SC'r and I purchased from CDAN against his recommendations:flipoff2: Also zero mods needed to anything with the 3FE fan.

Same here. But now we have PHIL, POWDERPIG, K&H and the rebuilder of many many Toyota motors suggesting green only.

I have not decided 100% but I am now leaning green.

When I rebuilt the '97 engine, I switched over to the green chilli. The '96 still eats red chilli. :D When the time comes to rebuild the '96, I'll switch it over to green. It's nice to have one brand of antifreeze, engine and gear oil in the garage for various cars.

One more for a green burrito. :bounce:

Very nice, congrats. Curious, what is the red funnel used for - burping the radiator? Is it half full of antifreeze?

Yes and yes. It's also an easy way to see if there are bubbles. There is also a plug on the inside.

That's just great. It runs and sounds GREAT. Congrats.

Thanks. Just a few items to fix such as Photoman's alt mod and my oil pressure gauge doesn't work. But its mostly ready to go.

So that fan looks right? It looks really under-sized :(

Don't know the original application for the fan in your pix on post #334, but it is neither the ring fan that came on my SC setup, and it is not the 3FE fan that I replaced the ring fan with. I used p/n 16361-61020, as recommended by LandcruiserPhil and Tools. Not only does it seem to move more air that the ring fan, it also sits more than 1/2" farther away from the radiator core, so less risk of contact. John
