EGR Temp Sensor Test Plug

Guys I just want to report that I was able to achieve readiness by using a different value resistor and then use the HUDDEXPO PLUG to keep the light off. No erg sensor installed or modulator.
I ordered a resistor kit for around $5 from Amazon then I used a paper clip and some alligator clips and plugged that MacGyver system into the EGR sensor plug. I think the resistor was 100k or 150k or 200k, one of those. I left me code scanner in the OBD2 port and took drive. It took about 1 minute of driving to achieve readiness. I pulled over and popped the HUDEXPO plug and went straight to the smog station and passed.

Short story: I got my cats stolen at the airport. I had to smog the car but the Smog techs OBD2 scan the car for readiness. I could not achieve readiness with the HUDDEXPO plug or with the original EGR equipment. I figured if the ECU used a value for the EGR code, it must use a value for OB2 readiness given that the erg sensor is just a basic 2 wire sensor.
Interesting. Thanks for posting. At the airport! Sheesh.

Not anymore:), sold through the last bunch yesterday. Building more tonight and tomorrow, I expect all orders to ship tomorrow afternoon.

Can someone please way dumb down what readiness means when it comes to this. I’m so lost. Thanks
Readiness simply means the vehicle has completed the “check” on the EGR valve and everything is functioning normally. Otherwise, the light can be off but “not ready” because it’s still in the process of gathering data. This matters if you’re actually trying to pass emissions - in my state, depending on the year - you’re either exempt (25 years or older) or can have 1-2 “not ready” codes in order to pass.

I’m in the communist state of California. And I have a 93 with obd 1, does it matter for me?

I'm in your same state and this month will be my first inspection where I am technically exempt on my 97. Does that mean they will ignore my CEL or will I have to buy this thing to still be able to pass?

I have this mod and it works well, meaning the CEL stays off. The "emmisions readiness" isn't complete as seen on the Torque app. Thankfully, my county allows two emmission monitors to be "not ready".

I think you’ll pass without it but I’d get rid of the light either way, personally.

Does this disable to the entire EGR system? I just want something simple to stop (1) HG issues (2) Protect the wire loom. Is this the solution for me?

Yes, for testing purposes it will disable it.

Thank you, follow up questions. Disable it as it the pipe will be cold, and gases will not be dumped back into the engine for recirculating? What’s the benefit of this kit compared to making block off plates?

I got your kill switch kit btw, really happy with it.

Yes, that's correct. Block off plates are going one step beyond. They enable you to remove the pipe altogether, making for a cleaner, less cluttered look.

Yes, and the pipe by the harness will not be hot.
