Cool build going on here,

I'm keen to hear the spool and noise from a short exhaust n muffler system.

When the afr is at 10 is that not bad for the donk

I was shocked myself to see almost perfect AFR's with 0 tuning.

That is interesting and it means a couple of things, sounds like. For your intended application it is perfectly sized, and the spool and lag are appropriately timed for the closed to open loop transition. But it also means you are not seeing any boost (additional air) in closed loop, which is totally fine, just means you won't have power until you really need it. :)

Daily driving around city streets with stop and go traffic I see no difference in acceleration when not boosting. As soon as the gauge shows positive pressure, I feel that push getting stronger and stronger as the rpms rise. However it feels like your typicalnormally aspirated motor with no sluggish feeling off the line. I really need to get this thing on a dyno soon. Very curious myself what this is pushing at the wheels.

What you need to do is to get your ass to Cruise Moab 2013 next week mister!!!

This is really exciting and I'm looking forward to the production setup. We take twice-annual family vacations, one of which is up to the eastern Sierra's using highway 395 to June and Mono Lakes and I would love to have this on my rig. The grades around the Mono Lake basin at 8K-9K feet are just a drag on my fully loaded LC. Could have seriously used this up 101 at the La Cuesta grade north of Santa Barbara as well. The LC was just not happy getting up that grade. Thanks for the great thread.

BTW - what did your friends at the local smog shop have to say regarding whether or not it would pass or did I just miss that entry?

Over the weekend I installed the Turbonetics 60-1 with the 58 Trim Exhaust Side.
I noticed a much quicker spool up right from the get go. Also installed the newly redesigned AEM Wideband/Boost Gauge. Has complete data logging for both boost and wideband read outs. Also installed the AEM Water Temp Gauge on a dual pod on the drivers pillar. So far wideband sits in the 14's most of the time. On about 60-70% open throttle, goes to about 11.5-11.9. So took it out on the freeway to see what happens. Was traveling 60mph (showing on Speedo). Figuring it must be about 65mpg with the 35's. Traffic starts to lighten up, so I Punched it. As soon as boost comes on, AFR drops down to 10.2-10.5. Got up to 100 and let off. I was probably getting close to 110 actual mph. Tried it about 3-4 times before exiting and every time the numbers were the same. The sound is freaking awesome. I have not been listening to any music since this kits been on. You hear nothing but the hiss of boost filling the manifold behind the firewall. Let me tell you that this thing has never come close to 100. Well, maybe once when I was going downhill. It did not struggle at all. I will try to make a few videos showing WOT with boost and AFR readings. So far Very Very satisfied with the results. This is with Stock ECU, no fuel mods or piggy backs.

Also ... your engine bay is really clean. Kudos to you.

Thanks a lot! I have not smogged after the turbo install. Planning on doing smog and dyno soon. While driving home today I recorded a small video with my phone to hear the boost come on. Will upload soon and keep you guys posted.

Still trying out different configurations with a few types of boost controllers. I only made 2 videos on the way home from work today. I will upload the other soon. Sorry, no 0-60 pull video yet. But I plan on mounting a camera soon and going for a fun ride:grinpimp:

I'm working on it. Want to put at least 1k miles on it before coming up with a ready install kit. By the way, love your rig climbing the tree. That thing looks bad

x2 on the kit comment! Thanks for posting the vid, that was nice (yes, easily amused). On a total side note, I need a job like yours. I sit in an office ... yours looks like a helluva lot more fun!

For my better understanding, what are you envisioning the kit consisting of? Are we talking about all the pieces configured and setup to bolt on, or just the main components of the turbo system, and then the individual would need to fabricate all the exhaust plumbing to integrate the intercooler, muffler, turbo etc...?

Also, are you thinking fresh air plumbed from the front or some sort of rear mounted snorkel? :hhmm:

I am interested in a full kit too. I doubt you want to go through all the CARB stuff to get it CA legal....? Either way a full kit, bolt on is whats going to sell the best, i am in Nor Cal and for sure ready to see the kit, dyno and price!!! Keep it up, i love the ease of the rear mounted turbo!

So I have been thinking about that. So far I have about 300+ miles with the turbo on the car. So far no CEL, no issues at all. Nothing but great sounds from the back of my truck. If all continues to go well. I was thinking of 3 ways of selling this setup. Starting with the most expensive down to DIY.

1) For locals or anyone that would like to visit Socal. We would schedule a time to leave your rig for approx 2 days at 2KRacing to get the whole system fabricated to your liking. This would be completely custom, you choose the components you want to install. Estimated price would be starting at $3,500+

2) Sell a complete bolt on system to either factory cats or sell with a high flow cat, with or without intercooler, etc. Estimated price would be starting at $3k+

3) DIY Kit - All components needed to install including all Flanges, Clamps, Hoses, etc. All you would have to do is take it to your local muffler shop that can bend piping and weld it up for you. Or in your garage if you have a bender and welding tools. This is going to be very similar to a bumper build, but just more fun! Estimated price would be starting at $2k+

Again, still testing to see what works and what needs more attention. But I do plan on getting them in production if the demand is there. I would first like to install it on someone from the forum community so that they can test for themselves and review their own experience.
