I think I've found a 4:1 Dana 300. I know you all think I'm nuts with my driveline fetish :flipoff2:, but I've gotta get the rear driveline to a realistic length. Cool thing is, I'll only lose a little bit of gearing from the compound low of the doubler while still having a very doable gearing choice in the rocks.

4-1 Dana 300 is a great option, Lots of aftermarket support.
I wheel my jeep in 3.8-1 most of the time with a turbo 350 tranny in front of it, your 4L60 will give you an even better first gear than my combo will.

I love my 4:1 Dana 300. Awesome transfer case. Atlas 2 speed can bolt in it's place should you need deeper gearing/stronger case.

it's why I went with a 5 speed, the low first gear effectively lowers the gear ratio. I still haven't had a time where I've needed a lower first gear - which is why my 300 doesn't have the 4:1 conversion... all I did was the Novak 32 spline rear (which gained me even more space for a driveshaft).

Picked up a Dana 300 for the crazy price of $75 dollars this morning.
I'm going to rebuild it using JB Conversions kit, as well as their HD 1350 front and rear outputs (that way I don't have to change out ujoints, and only have to deal with shaft lengths).

I'm going to remove the fenders over the next couple of days. Two reasons: I'm going to drop the PS one off to a friend who does body work to finish removing the dent on that side, and spend some time wheeling it without fenders and see how I like it.
Dana 300 stuff is slow going until I sell my dual case setup

I just realized I haven't had any updates in a long while.
I'm sticking with the blackbox/205 set up for the moment (long story), but will continue to build up the dana 300 as budget allows and I'll eventually get it installed. I may even be keeping the blackbox, using it with the dana 300, and still gain three inches in driveshaft length in the rear (as well as have an almost 11:1 ratio out of the cases).
I started mounting up the beadlocks and tires last night with some help from my oldest. We sorted out a good system for mounting the ring, but I have to go back and re-center the tire on the wheel. With a little luck and having learned from the first mounting experience, I should be able to get all of the tires mounted tonight and post some pics.

I have the best luck mounting and centering the tire by setting the assembly on a 5 gallon bucket so the tire is hanging and seated as well as possible then take an cordless drill and tight every 3rd bolt around the wheel until they are all tight. Usually takes 9-10 complete rotations.

X2 on this, smaller diameter trash can is nice too because your not kneeling down or bending over

We started with the bucket method, but we were also doing it in the dark (had the littlest one playing in the lawn with us mounting tires next to her) and just didn't see that we were off center. Lesson learned.
Do you find the drill to be more consistent than a cordless impact?

I found it works better than the impact just because it's not as strong and seems to be easier to judge how much your tightening them.
I have a new cordless 1/4" impact driver that I may try next time

Tires are all mounted up (not on the cruiser yet), but they wouldn't look bad on the Tundra.
