It sounds like you will be up and running your "4 on the Tree" in no time. Great job working through all of the issues and the stuff that life tends to throw at us.

Regarding the fuel tank, it sounds like your epoxy treatment will work just fine. But here is another option.
Complete Gas & Fuel Tank Service
We work on all types of fuel tanks from auto & truck to agricultural tractors & combines. We can clean and repair any antique or classic gas tank and treat the inside with a liner that will keep your fuel clean and your classic running year after year.
I recently spoke with Mike regarding repairing our rear heater core which I mailed him to silver solder. Of course, I recognize that shipping a gas tank to/from may make this cost prohibitive.

Almost ready to drive this truck. Need to finish painting the fuel tank and refresh a couple hoses and gaskets.
Speaking of, anyone interested in a new gasket for the fuel filler neck and sending unit? I am going to make ones out of Viton rubber. The replacement sender unit gasket I used was not sealing well so I want to try something better and more compatible with modern gas.

Viton gaskets came out great! Very happy with them.

Finally painted the gas tank. A good 6’ paint job. Hahaha. It will do the job nicely and I’m happy.

New driveshafts

Finished up the front knuckle rebuild. Glad I did this. The bottom trunion bearing cap lock washers and birfield end C-clips were missing from both sides!. Hopefully that wasn’t high school me’s fault. Sheesh!

Are you going to make some of these gaskets for the Cruiser Cult store?

I have had similar issues with the sender gasket, i used what i thought was Viton rubber as well as cork and other chemical resistant rubber and sending unit still leaked when tank was full. I have a newer OEM gasket that i punched holes to match older sending unit hole alignment, haven't filled the tank to full yet to see if it worked.

I am planning on taking them to the gasket maker here in town this week to get some details. I’ll report back. :)

One of the mysteries with this 40 is I had no idea on what color red it was repainted with. Other than it was a Toyota red. A trip to the paint store and a guess on a color swatch trying to match it to the old paint on the turn signal was my best hope. Being red-green color blind, I was sweating bullets. I took my daughter along to pick the color for me. Hahaha. It looks like Toyota Super Red 2 (3E5) was the correct choice. Phew!

Now that I have a definitive code, touch up painting and other projects I have in mind will be much easier. :)

Before I dive into literature and mud archives, anyone know off the top of the head if this fuel filler cover is correct for a 67 and earlier fj40?

My 69 ( manufacture 5/68 ) has a full shield. I think the cut out ones are for evap canister

Thanks! I’ll look for a non-cut out one. At least these can be added later after I install the tank. I don’t want to have to take the tank all apart again. :D

If I remember they just clamped around the filler

On a ‘65 40, and I have one on my ‘63 45.

Flat black, so yeah, that brings up a lot of questions.

To clear the seat bracket, at least on a F/T SWB 45

I had a small coolant leak last time I drove it but wasn’t sure of the source. So after I had to mess with the radiator during the drivetrain swap, I decided to do a pressure test. I pumped it to 10psi and found a couple leaks. One hose clamp had to be tightened all the way. Sheesh. I can’t see any visible leaks anymore. I did notice after I tightened everything and pumped back to 10psi that I lost 1psi after 30min. Seems ok. The kit says 2min holding pressure. Online of course gives wildly different opinions. So I’ll run and see how it goes.

Well I pumped the system to 12psi, tightened a couple other hoses and let it sit overnight. Good news is there was still 7psi in the morning! Bad news is I see some weeping on the waterpump back plate gasket. Argh!!!! :bang:So annoyed. This is the second time that gasket has leaked. I used Fel-pro 3075 coolant sealing gasket material and a thin layer of sealer. Still leaked. Maybe I need to tighten the screws harder. Or maybe the back plate is warped just enough. No idea. I really really don’t want to take the pump back out but I may. I feel like I should just bite the bullet.
