Gonna have to research what all Robbie did for Chris when they built the 76. Heck there is chance It’s been rebuilt although I don’t recall anything about the wire just the engine.

Jon, is the wiring in the 69 trashed? If it's getting a 2F/4speed and new axles, none of those require additional wiring; or, if there is something like a carb wire, it'll be minor. Unless the 69s wiring is really bad, I'd just fix what's there either by pulling the harness and repairing or by removing bad sections and adding new wire.

Mike the wiring in the 69 isn’t the best and with some plans for possible AC in future figure this might be the best time.

Dug through Delancys old thread and found one pic and limited typing which goes against everything Chris did, lucky i even found it! This may dictate a few things!

After watching @Tomba wrestle his engine install I’m hell bent on removing and installing the engine+tranny from the 76 into the 69.

That being said would it not be easier to take the 1F out of the 69 followed by the tranny?

Call me crazy but after watching @Tomba wrestling his engine back in…I’d be hell bent on calling the man! Perspectives…😂

There will be discussions…already noticed he isn’t on mud right now.

I just installed a 2F/4 speed tranny/tcase in my 45 on Saturday. It was really helpful to take the tires off and drop the axles as close to the floor as possible. Took about 1.5 hours and I had to use tow straps and floor jacks to hold up everything so I could reposition the hoist a few times. You got this!

The 76 has several mismatched screws. I was thinking to myself how nice it was to make note of all the screws on the 69 then that screw could have poked my eye out!

Had to take a little break after that ;)... Taking them out is fairly easy. Installing them bolted together would be significantly easier IMHO.
Let's chat...

installing in a 40/45 is much easier than a 55, the issue is the height of the core support. You have to go way high, angle the transmission way down (almost vertical) and finagle in. I got it done once on an SOA ‘73, but needed all of that height and several people to rotate it in place (fancy lift adjuster ain’t gonna help here). I’d suggest removing the doghouse and bellhousing ears if you are going this route, especially with nice paint. Or just go two pieces (what I did in ‘79). My $.02

Made quick trip down to Houston to deliver Bonnies gas tank and meet the guy I sent $5000 to!

Fun to see Bonnie getting upgraded, it’s obvious that Steve does some nice work.

Also nice to see our old LV!

Story of my life, plan something there is a 99% chance it’s going to change. Body swap didn’t happen as planned so now considering pulling the 2F out of Delancy’s old pig turn 180 degree’s and put it in the new pig. I’m sure I will kick this plan around a 100 times but the frame on the 69 is as clean as they come so little swap here and there with engine tranny and axles and then work on the rest of it.

Which raises the question regarding electrical. Do you pull the harness out to the 76 and swap to the 69 or go with one of the painless wiring set up? IF painless wiring is good way to go to update everything is there specific kit that is preferred or has been used with the pigs (considering someone has gone this route). Or is there a better set up someone has experience with?

Been too busy recently even to mess with it as I have been working to knock the dust off my flying so I can do some with my son which is in flight school. Daughter home from Spring break but leaves tomorrow so life in shop starts up again in next couple weeks.

Taking Steve Bonnie’s new gas tank this Friday so hopefully share some pics of the progress Saturday evening.

What happened to the original engine swap plans?

I have never messed w/ the Painless harness, so I can't say from experience. I do know that everything @Coolerman will use factory connectors - good stuff.

The boy is wrapping up Spring Break today as well. If your daughter likes ice cream, the boy works at Edison's Ice Cream in Old Town, they have some tasty stuff!

Getting ready to drop a tank? I feel for you! Start doing your stretches now!

Maybe drop the tranny/t-case and then pull the engine?

The Tomba thread was like watching a one-legged man at an ass-kicking contest wrestle a midget for a greased watermelon, or something like that.
