It’s been a year since I updated this thread. I’m building a 2F from an ‘82 60 to put in the 45 long bed. Spring break is next week. Hoping to get this built and, maybe, in the 45.

I’ve installed tranny/tcases too many times laying on my back. Lowered the front as much as possible and going to mount everything to the engine and try install the whole works at one time. We’ll see how it goes.

Had to use tow straps and floor jacks to hold it while repositioning the hoist a few times. Not pretty, but got it.

She runs. Could have gone worse, I suppose, but far from how I imagined it. The intake gasket is leaking and that causes all kinds of problems. The egr cover plate I made leaks too. But, have a running starting point!

Fixed the vacuum leaks. Huge difference. The remflex gasket looked brand new, so I thought I’d save some money and reuse it. Bad idea. Fixed the egr plate and all’s well there now too. These engines are so smooth.

After 2 months in the corner of the garage, the 45 is ready to emerge a different truck. This rig has removed any sense of romanticism for working on an old rig. I was fought every step of the way and had to manufacture a bunch of fixes. The worst was getting a carb, air cleaner, master cylinder, and booster to all play nicely together. I went through 3 MCs and ended up using the 60 one I began with. I sure hope I don’t have to work on this for a while and can just enjoy it. She starts right up and sounds good. Tuning the Weber 38/38 took some doing, but I think it’ll do well.

On the road again! Wow, she runs great! Cruised almost 70 effortlessly. I wanted to go faster, but there was too much traffic.

Good enough.
Now, to figure out who gets the dunce cap next and put in the corner. 40 has a bad oil leak, 80 needs AC added, 45 swb needs bed work, a 60 that needs front springs swapped, a fuel tank and rear locker, and my son’s Gen II 4Runner needs the engine finished and installed. No shortage of work!

Been driving the 45 a bunch. I noticed the brake lights stayed on after turning the truck off. Hours later this. Ugh. Just the latest.

I think I finally found the end of all the melted wires. Time to start putting everything back together.
