That’s not true at all. HIDS when inside projectors do not have glare or blind you. They are precise and deliver a perfect spread of light. The cheap HID kits that most people opt to install in their cars shoot light everywhere and cause terrible glare. That’s because the housings are designed for halogen bulbs

Right... if you go to YouTube and watch some of the stuff done by HeadlightRevolution you will see that they do not recommend doing LED or HID in anything but proper, specific housings meant for them. There are some exceptions where you can get certain housings that are "halogen like" (not actual halogen housings) and they will be just fine. But for the most part HID and LED bulbs are meant to be placed in specific LED/HID housings that will project the light properly.

The other thing you will find with lots of conversions it that people will just install them and not worry about aiming the lenses. Most don't know that modern vehicles have an aiming mechanism in them and thus do not worry about it thinking that "everything's in there tight so it must be good." I am actually talking with theRetroFitSource about this to see if there is a HID system they would recommend for my new Cibie lenses (looking at the Morimoto Elite Bi-Xenon HID kit). I had sent a message over to HLR and they said they did not recommend it but they really only focused on newer vehicles and thus would not truly know about a retrofit application. They then recommend that I talk with TRFS to see if they had any recommendations as they were a Morimoto dealer as well.

I will post back once I hear from TRFS.

No mine lined up fine. Make sure the rings are on the right side and line up before mounting. Also try the other light and see if it mounts up better. They aren’t side specific

What you’ve all been waiting for.

Low beam and high beam for Koito H4 upgrade with relay harness installed.

Might unplug relay harness and plug stock wiring into lamp for comparison as well. I’m very content with the upgrade, especially for the price!

How’d you mount the fuses? I’m curious to see how you mapped the harness out. I can’t believe what Toyota/Koito provides for the price, it’s a great package.

I’m having trouble getting the three tabs on the back of the city racer housing to line up with the mounting “cup”. I’ve tried crimping them open a little more but I can’t seem to get the new housing to sit flush with the mounting bracket. Did you have any issues with this?

I actually had to file a bit of material off of the 3 tabs on the headlight housing to get mine to seat flush. Didn’t take much.

How do they look in the road? We know you can see your garage door now ;)

I might upgrade to those. I've cracked a hella but it still works.

I'll be putting laminx on my next set of glass headlights. I used to use them on my VW fog lights and it really helped.

Very nice...
Well I got a response from TRS about the HID conversion. Basically, they said that like everyone else on the road I could throw the HID kit into my housings and they would work, however like everyone else I would end up with a horrible pattern, blinding some people, etc. which I expressly do not want to do. They mentioned that there are a few HID replacement kits on the market and they would be happy to talk with me about them and see what would best fit my application.

Honestly I am curious to see how much a HID retrofit would cost and what it would look like but most of them I see out on the interwebz have black housings and just look plain ugly to me. I was hoping to keep the "stock-ish" look with something but that may be harder than anticipated with a good quality product.

For now, I am excited to see if I get a difference with the Cibie housings!
