I was having trouble getting the correct lug nuts for the OEM Toyota aluminum wheels. Charles was kind enough to post a pic and size of his nuts :) I'm sure it's not the first time, but we won't tell anybody.

Unless they are tarnished and misshapen they are not mine.:zilla:

I picked up the front shield I had made yesterday from the powdercoater, and got it installed today. Unfortunately, I trashed the cardboard one, so no spare for Charlie.

And of course, I found the OEM one today also, which I could of modified. Oh Well.

Hoping tomorrow to get it out and get some pics of the completed truck.

My camera is on it's last leg.....

ALIGNMENT TIME!

I am taking the 74 to the alignment shop on Friday AM to get it aligned. They don't have caster shims, and can't get them.

I ASSUME (big word) that they can get it all aligned, and then see where the caster is currently. Then I can order the correct shims if needed, and install them without having to take it in and get it aligned again.

Am I assuming too much?

My ironman lift is only supposed to be 2.5, but it was soo sagged that I am not completely sure how much it came up.

all they can really do is adjust the toe in.
you can do it easy enough 1/8" toe in.
they can tell you how far out your caster is.
caster shims won't affect anything so knock yourself out.
2.5 degree is the usual need... if any.

....And to think NASCAR can do all of that in a 15 second pit stop. :)

I took the 74 on a short cruise tonight. EGT at 900 at 60 MPH 6lb boost. Speedo off by 5 MPH at 60. Temp gauge isn't working. I checked ohms, and it was 186 at 120 degrees, barely within spec. But at that, it should read something!

BIG problem is that I am stuck in 4WD. I checked, and it is definitely in 4WD. Light is on. Light will go out when I shift the transfer case into neutral, but on when I am in low or high.

Any ideas how to get it out of 4WD? Can I apply vacuum to the suction tube, or pressure to the other tube. Is it possible that I have the lines crossed? Would that make it stay in 4WD?

I checked vacuum, and I have about 17 lbs vacuum.

Need help!

That gear change we discussed should get you about spot-on.
I just went out and checked my 4WD indicator operation. The engine must be running to get it to turn on or off. IE if you shut the engine off when it is in 4WD and if you turn the key to on only it will not shift out. If you do the same thing when it is not in 4WD it will not shift in. My light goes out when the transfer is shifted into Neutral. My bet is you need vacuum to shift in either direction. You might try reversing the vacuum lines on the solenoids to see if it will shift out.

how have you confirmed you are in 4wd?
unlock the hubs
reach under and try and turn the driveshaft.
yes, as Dan says, reverse the vacuum lines.
900 seems high for cruising steady at 6 lbs of boost, acceptable but on the high side. usually, so i have found on a variety of cruisers, cruising usually is around 600 to 700.
either way, you won't do any harm at all at that setting.

congrats, you must be a happy guy.

I thought 900 seemed high also. At full throttle through shifts it peaked at 1300 and 14 lbs boost.. Only thing I did was wrap the exhaust pipe where it goes past the fuel lines. and turn up the boost. I wonder if the gauge is right. I am picking up the temp right under the turbo, in the exhaust manifold

I locked the hubs and confirmed on the gravel it was in 4wd. I'll try changing the vac lines this AM

I checked out the vac lines and the VSV. Vacuum is switching ports from line to line when the button is depressed. So it works. Also verified that it is vacuum to put it in 4WD and vacuum to take it out of 4WD. With the switch off, I have vacuum to the lower port on the transfer case module, and with the switch depressed, I have vacuum to the upper port. Everything checks out. Module must be stuck. Going to have to pull it off and free it up.

Well I got it out of 4WD. A little low pressure compressed air in each vacuum hose got the rod moving again. Works well now. Temp gauge started working. Must have had a bad connection, and taking it on and off must have cleaned it up!.

So cosmetically, it is pretty much done---except for the crappy factory rear bumper, which I am going to replace one a new one makes itself available. I was really surprised when I tried to shut the doors with the windows up. Must not be many air leaks, because you have to shut a little firm due to air pressure---but that is a good thing!

Kind of looks like Charlies twin---mirror image though.

NEW AVATAR!
