I use a coolant additive too and I did notice about the same 10F degree drop. I would definitely turn the fans on before 200F. You could try different set points (180, 185, 190...) to see if one works out better. I have my fan controller starting the fans at about 190 right now but I don't have AC hooked up yet. Planning on it hopefully next month. I'll be moving my tranny cooler to the back with its own fan to remove it from my cooling row.

Left work and drove home with the AC on. The weather outside is in the mid 90s. Had the fan on the entire time, temps reached 200*. Will keep documenting this to see what changes need to be made.

Take a pic of your front end (radiator/IC/condenser/oil cooler stack). Got any big gaps in between any of those? I've seen people seal up gaps with foam tape for better airflow through them.

Mike, have you considered venting the hood for more air flow ?? Two turbos make a ton of heat !
It did occur to me. I'm saving to get a good paint job, I'll be replacing the hood with a non dented one. I don't know who can cut open the hood and still make it look nice or factory, I have not seen a design of any fj62 that would work.
I'm open to suggestions and pictures.

Yeah, those are the best I have seen yet. If you want a cheap test mike, rip the hood off and go for a spin. If a a difference, then you know what to do without wasting time and cash??

That's a great idea. I'll see if I have time to try it out on a long distance before it goes to the shop. Not sure if it's illegal in Texas to drive without a hood.

That is really cool. Buy me a set and I'll test them out on my truck for you

I was really hoping you'd say that.

You think these will work on a 62 hood?

I'll do it if I can get confirmation that it could work.
The main louvre should work but the sides may not. Perhaps post an ad on the classifieds for a hood to test it on. Let the company your getting it from know your testing it on a 60 to see if they work. Maybe they already know or will want you to try. If it works it will increase their sales. I’d really like to add them to my hood. Even though Oregon isn’t too hot very often.

Looks like 210* F is the new normal with the AC on at high way speeds. Drove it about 60 miles yesterday to and from my friend Lee's place for some Memorial Day BBQ and shooting. It was about 98* outside and Big Red ran at 210* without issue. There were some winding uphill roads got it to 218*, but the AC blew cold the entire way. Not too comfortable with the temps, but it seems fine so long as I don't push it hard.

Here's Big Red next to Mean Green ( not officially its name, but sounds better than Medium Green). Lee made the best brisket, chicken and sausages.

Here we're at the range loading up. That canopy was worth its weight in gold.

So these next two pictures, notice how high the water got. There's a story there but when your drunk SFOD buddy tells you "trust me it's only 2 feet of water", you better double check first. Nearly killed the engine. We have a video of it, just need to transfer it and upload.

Big Red did die once it took some water in the engine, but then turned back on with tons of white smoke for about 20 seconds.
