Hey guys my already wimpy factory horns are officially even worse now that one has gone out. I think the bell on my youngest sons tricycle is louder.

So... can I get some recommendations for horns that fit behind the grill that sound good? I don't want air horns.

Thanks in advance!

Jason

NAPA high/low horns, they're cheap and bolt right up and sound pretty good, much better than factory...

Cruise down to your local pick n pull and grab a set of vw horns. I have them on several vehicles and they usually run me about 7bucks. I think they might be Hellas. Sound great.

For those of you who have the Hellas, was it necessary to get the additional relay and wiring pigtail that I see available?

I use the 200 series jdm horns, offered by @Akella

No, the only change was adding a pigtail ground wire. Never thought they were all that loud, until my then four year old son hit the horn when my head was under the hood...ears rang for a few minutes, and a few four-letter words flew.

Which horn sounds the most normal/appropriate for a Toyota SUV without being obnoxious?

Thanks for all the advice everyone I really appreciate it

I like my Volvo XC70 horns that I got from the pick n pull.

Stebel Nautulis. Great sound.

Fiamm Freeway Blasters Hi and Lo. Higher decibels than Hellas and a lot less expensive. They plug right in without changing anything and with no added relays. I bolted them on the OEM brackets and adjusted / bent the brackets a little to face the horns out, put back on the grill, and now have a very authoritative horn. Kinda of a cross between a BMW/Porsche and a Old School Cadillac sound. The sound and volume almost identical to the horns on my Cayenne. They are VERY LOUD inside and outside the cab.
Again, read the decibels on various horns and Fiamm Freeway Blasters are about as loud as you can get with out air from what I could see.
Beware though: Kragen/ORileys carry "Blasters" which are NOT made by FIAMM and DO NOT have near the FIAMM's decibel level. They have a deep but punkish low tone and are NOT louder than stock in my opinion. (The clerk hooked them up to a battery for me to hear.)
BTW I had a question about relays/wiring and FIAMM from Italy got right back to me by email in English. Very good customer service.
