Yeah, got through break-in, motor sounds great mechanically. I haven’t started it since I got it home, hope I didn’t cause issue driving it back, probably should have towed it.
I’m guessing you rebuilt the engine so you could drive her, not tow her…

If you flat tow it with a tow bar there is a guy here on mud that makes a wiring harness that plugs into wiring harness to make turn signals work right. Coolerman made me two.
Not to sounds naive here but can you safely flat tow a pig? Without disconnecting the xfer case can’t you cause some serious damage?

Interesting photos from the troubleshooting.

After taking off the carb off I noticed the secondary barrel had about an inch of fuel sitting at the bottom and the intake was wet from fuel. You can see cylinders 2-5 have heavy soot buildup, 1 was burning okay and 6 was wet like it wasn’t firing. The white buildup I’m guessing was from the electrical parts cleaner I sprayed in the distributor to clean out the old sticky grease. The fuel filter has a couple chunks of rust, but didn’t look like enough to stop the delivery of fuel, and from my pressure test and line flushing prior to starting it looked pretty good.

Well, it has been a whirlwind of a few weeks trying to complete this 55 for my daughter’s wedding. She wanted to drive off into the sunset in her now 55. It was short lived as I didn’t have time to shake down the engine and it has some problems. Here are a couple photos of the almost finished product.

Green is the perfect color for a Wedding Pig!

Great story, it was always my daughter’s dream to drive away in the 55 at her wedding so I wanted to make that happen. I wish it ran better to get her where she wanted to go, but at least it got her around the block. 😜

At least now I have a little time to finalize the last few things for her.

She told me either she was going to drive away or I’d be towing her, either way she was going to be in the 55. 😁

Thanks, I’ve got access to a trailer so no flat tow for me. I did that once and if I had the option I choose not to do it again.

If I remember right when I flat towed the 55 the trans and t-case were in neutral and everything went fine.

Do you know anyone who has a known working carburetor you can try just to verify if it’s a carburetor problem?
Also, how positive are you that you’re getting good flow out of your tank outlet?
There seems to be a reoccurring theme lately of plugged outlet/pick-up tubes in old factory tanks.
I’ve got other carbs o could try, but in this case I’m sure it’s the culprit and it’ll need rebuilt anyway.

I checked flow into and out of the tank prior to starting it, everything looked to be okay. There was a couple flakes of rust in the filter, but definitely not enough to stop flow.

Agree. No issue with transfer case in neutral. That’s assuming original or equivalent drivetrain.

Jinkees!
It sounds like you have some issues to iron out...

Flat towing on snow or ice isn't fun. Dad was pulling a jeep down a five mile hill went broadside jeep got over the opposite shoulder flipped and took the truck with it. No one hurt pushed both back over and drove on.

We flat tow a 2018 Chevy Colorado behind the RV. Still bugs me so gonna invest in a good trailer (not a farm trailer) to haul a pig behind us.

A Chevy Colorado I’d risk destroying, a pig not so much. The Chevy blew the $5000 budget just to get it towable.

Remove the tank and flush it then zinc chromate coat it. You'll have to retap the threaded holes when the coating dries. You'll need to flush the lines and either coat them or replace them all. Replace or clean the fuel pump. All the arts that carried the rusted fuel will have rust deposits. So do it right or keep fighting it. Eastwood still carries zinc chromate. This is really the only good way that has worked for me for decades. But do your own thing. So it right the first time and never do it again or fight it it till you decide to sell it or do it right?

A couple updates. I cut the fuel filter open to see how bad the rust problem in the tank was, I was surprised, the filter was clean. With that result I decided to clean and rebuild the carb. After the clean and rebuild, varnish was terrible from sitting with old fuel, and a newly crimped wire connection for the fuel cut solenoid I restarted and found that it ran far better than before but still had some erratic idle. I started looking at the ignitor/coil and distributor and found that I was lacking a good ground for the ignitor, and that the coil wires were loose on the coil. Fixing those issues along with the carb made it drive-able. The story isn't over yet, while driving it has a pretty heavy ping. I checked the timing adjustment and at this time it's 7degrees BTDC and it still pings. I'm thinking due to the high performance cam, the custom domed pistons and the de-smog I'm either going to have to re-curve the current distributor, buy a new non-USA distributor with points and ballast resistor, or a DUI. Still trying to decide the best route to go.

Thanks
Scott
