I believe there was a small rock chip right at the bottom last year, it started off as about a 1/2" crack that hadn't grown at all. Until this week, not it's almost to the top. Add that to 2 other rock chips in that glass, guess I'll be searching for a new windshield soon.

Hot and cold from the defroster and snow on the outside will eventually lengthen even the smallest of cracks.

I just filled a couple of chips in my OEM windshield I picked up from road gravel over the previous winter. I used an over-the-counter repair kit (Rain-X) and a UV flashlight. Took about 10 minutes. Hopefully I've added a few years to glass. I do wish the epoxy was a little harder though. Rain-X was rated #3 on the Project Farm channel.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Why grease em' when you can replace em'

I did my normal Fluid Film application again some time ago, apparently it keeps the snow away all together. It hasn't snowed a lick here since Jan 10th.

Y'all east coasters and southerners can ship it back to us please.

Morning! I have been inactive for so long and suddenly got an alert this morning. Good to see you're still going strong up North. Planning to visit Idaho/Montana in June. We need to connect and deal with some of that beer.

Long time sir!

We'll definitely meet up if you're in the region again!

And when I was still able to do things like greasing or replacing u-joints, it NEVER failed that if I was "helping" a friend or relative (helping meaning I was doing it for them) and replacing a u-joint it would go perfect! No problem. But if I was doing it for myself I always seemed to get a needle bearing that had fallen over or something.

A little package from @Racer65 today. Fixed the door pull, and a bigger issue.

Bigger issue caught me on the way to ski last weekend, I noticed my tach was doing funny things while driving, just randomly wondering around. Watching my ammeter a bit later I noticed the needle was consistently in the negative territory, even with the rpms screaming down the road.

Turned off all of the electrical loads I could from the factory stuff, and nothing changed.

Dumped as much of a load at once in it as I could, nothing, the needle never moved to the positive side.

Well this sucks I thought to myself, having some air blowing on the glass would probably be helpful today.......

Checked voltage in the lot I measured 11.4 VDC.

Well damn.

What alternator are you running?

Once I got home later that night I pulled the positive cable from the battery.

Engine died instantly.

Looking at my options I decided to go with the 50 amp upgraded alternator from City Racer.

Unfortunately I didn't get any pics this evening before I got busy changing it out.

A short test drive and we're looking as good as the legs on the Norwegian women's speed skating team.

The needle really swings in the positive when the rpms are high with some load on it.

My only concern might be the 50 amp upgrade on the 30 amp OEM system, most of my heavy loads are independent of the factory harness and all fuse protected, but I'm still a tad concerned until I test it for a while.

It was the old school 30 amp

Now the City Racer 50 amp.

External regulated.

Coolerman makes a jumper harness if you ever want to switch to internally regulated.

I thought about going that route, in fact I have an internally regulated alternator mounted in the late model bracket, but the last time I had a belt on it I heard one of the bearings screaming.

In the end I decided to go back to an original option.

At one point I had a plan to utilize the internally regulated alternator to power a completely separate battery system in the vehicle for auxiliary use only, but that idea has been on the back burner for a few years now.
