It's a tough life, but someone has to do it!

We're currently in the middle of a pretty serious snowstorm up above 5-6K ft. It's dumped nearly 4' of snow at the local ski mountain since Wednesday, and it's still coming nonstop through tomorrow!

The rain in the valleys has been a total soaker, river levers are rising already, ground is totally saturated.

Tech related, I'm starting to think one of the front hubs is gummed up and not locking in when I try to lock it. I should look into that soon. (Next month)

There's also a few more rust spots showing up lately.
That moisture sounds like very good news all the way around. Better late than never I suppose.

Get it while it's good.

As the kids say- Jelly. We are going to see 60 deg this week
Yeah, winter is about to be over. Forecast is calling for 60+ up at LT this coming week. I spent the last 4 days skiing hard. Something like 48" of decent powder, knowing that this was probably the last good weekend of skiing.

I tried to put the high school kids to shame.

Then they started launching off of the cliffs.

Needless to say, my legs are thrashed.

The clutch pedal was heavy today!

Looks like a great time! And they may be launching off cliffs, but you've got a WAY cooler ride than the high school kids do!

Hey, speaking of your FJ40, I'm guessing they salt the roads and stuff up there. What have and/or do you do to protect the underside of your rig to prevent rust / cancer?

I use a few cans of Fluid Film each season.

I went a little long between oil changes.

Oops.

The wire broke off of the OEM oil pressure sender terminal a few months back, I have a stash of various terminal ends I bought from @Coolerman a few years ago. Took care of that little problem today.

It's nice to see the factory gauge cluster working as advertised again.

While I was under there draining the engine oil I decided I should check the tranny and tranfer case levels as well. I've been running the bypass hose from @shipmag for a few years now.

Today when I opened the fill port on the tranfer case I was greeted with probably a half gallon or more of extra gear oil, knowing that my 40 leaks like the Exxon Valdez, and it doesn't spontaneously produce 90wt gear oil on its own, I knew exactly where it was from.

Before I even bothered to remove the tranny side of the bypass hose I grabbed an extra gallon or 90wt I had from the transfer case rebuild last year, I pumped about a half gallon or more into the transmission.

The bypass hose has been set aside for a while, I'm going to run it this summer and see if fluids migrate from one box to the other.

It was my understanding that the bypass hose was to prevent the transmission from sucking the oil from the transfer case, not the other way around.

Anyone else that reads this have any similar experience to this?

Yes, same thing has been happening to mine. I pulled the bypass hose off last fall and went back to just using the fill plugs. Haven't driven it enough to see what's happening with the oil. I do have a few leaks to tackle this spring. Hoping to get a better idea of gear oil loss/movement next fall after a summer of driving it.

I better get under mine and have a look, I’m running a bypass hose as well and it’s been a while.

I think the transfer case pumps oil up into the tranny - the by pass hose lets it drain back down.

That is the rumor on the street.

That's not what I see under my 40 though.
