Drilled the holes and welded up a couple of the sleeves for the power steering pump.

Looks good to me, nice work!!

Maybe this won't make you feel better, but by the time everything is painted and bolted up, nobody will ever notice what you think are crappy welds. That plate ain't going nowhere! :)

Good Job!

And this is why this is the best forum in the world! You guys are like the inverse of my wife! She wines and cries and you guys are stoked just to see progress. Thank you all!

I was so happy when I got my PS box mounted and was very excited that custom design actually worked out. I tell people about it and if they aren't on this forum they look at me like "What's the big deal? I thought all cars had power steering." Keep going, I wish I did my work with a frame off, it would have been a lot easier.

Did some more drilling and welding. Happy with most of it but it was tuff to weld the big hole in the fish plate. Looks like crap and I am not sure how to fix it.

Very nice work! The plates look nice and the PS set up is going to be sweet. I have this set up on my RHD FJ56 (brought all parts from Japan, including the 60 series axles and 60 series Power Steering when i brought the vehicle).
Stay the course partner; your doing an outstanding job!

Started working on the spring hangers. Exciting to be building what I need. My next carrot is to get this little pig back on four wheels.

Welding is not as mystical as some think. The science behind it and the metallurgy is what takes time and learning. When working on a rig and using mild steel, you just find the setting that penetrates the best and tape the knob down (almost). Get a wire feed, go to a metal shop and buy their cutoffs and start laying beads on it. Soon you will get a steady hand and learn if you are welding hot enough or too hot. I do suggest a class for some technique and general safety. Just remember, the world has grinders and you can redo anything with some elbow grease.

After all is said and painted noone will ever see the difference. You could always smooth it out with some bondo. That would make it seamless.

Was just over on the Target Carrier thread and it occurred to me that the reason that I feel like I am constantly slacking is because of every one else's threads. I mean there are a bunch of guys that have bought a pig, converted it to diesel or efi, panted, lifted, added air conditioning etc. reading through their threads makes it seem like that's all they work on and it makes me feel like I need to do more.

So I have decided to post some pics from the rest of my life to remind myself that all I can get done are baby steps when time allows. And to make sure everyone realizes these pigs take time, even if you are throwing money at it (which I am not... Well not too much!)

My DD is a 1983 volvo 242 which I bought 6 months ago and it has been stealing some attention. Rebuild the suspension, timing belt and water pump, heater blower motor and upgraded to vented rotors. Could not afford powder coating so I hand sanded and rattle canned the wheels. Here it is today:

I meant to say that the build threads on here make it seem like things are happening faster than they are which adds to the frustration of not getting enough done.

I don't even have all those things to post, just some tinkering on the doomer every once in a while. Every time I fix 1 trivial thing I find 2 more in its place. Have fun and go Giants!

Pig build might be slow now so that your son gets little older and really gets involved on that build. Children are the biggest blessing you can. Beautiful children they are.... Also cool Daily driver and bike...

Napster,

Looks and sounds like you have the perfect life, to me. Old saying... Your life should be as true and straight as the spokes on your motorcycle wheels, if one spoke gets too long, the whole wheel will wobble. You want your life spokes to be the same!

I bought a Honda 305 Scrambler back @ 1966, I was twelve and the dang thing was so heavy, I could hardly lift it up when it fell over. I can't remember what we paid for it, but I put up 300 and my Dad paid the rest. I ran it day and night all over the farm. Good memories!

My last project was a 1955 Chevy big back window pickup full custom frame, chop top, big block, big tire hot rod that I was about 70% finished and when my daughter wanted to race bicycles I put my project on hold. I spent the next eight years with her traveling around the country chasing championships and sold the Chevy for parts, I would scrap the pig in a second to do it again. My daughter is grown and has a family of her own now and I hope she gets to spend the time with her daughters that I got to spend with her because these are some of my best life memories.

I have lots of free time now and get to spend more time in the shop working on my projects but like parents tell their young children “don’t wish to be an adult so fast and enjoy your childhood” I’m saying don’t wish to be my age spending long days by yourself in the shop and enjoy your young family, you’ll have plenty of time to work on your stuff but you only get this time for a very short while.
