Build A pig for Father's Day

And one last piece of information that I just found. There are several pages of Heater and AC diagrams in the part's diagrams. I backed out, so to speak, to the Heating and Air Conditioning Set and found this illustration. It doesn't list individual parts so I don't know if those brackets shown in the diagram only came with the set??

It looks like you are figuring lots of things out about the condensor and mounting.

@Gordobe and I collaborated on an OEM condensor for one of his Pigs, he might be willing to share some specifics...

Left Vegas yesterday afternoon after dropping the wife and two sons at the airport. Spent the night in Flagstaff and helped the guys get the pig off the trailer this morning. They would have had it off last week but several inches of snow held them up. Made it to Amarillo but it's still a long way back to Auburn.

Blue Sky in Amarillo for dinner.
Stayed downtown in the Marriott Courtyard. Went to Crush Wine Bar and Grill - because it was only a block away. Didn't want to drive with a trailer in tow once I managed to get it settled in the parking lot. It was good but a burger at Blue Sky might have been better.
Dont forget Caddy Ranch
I saw that on the way to the hotel. Had no idea what I had actually seen until you mentioned it.

Drove the last 1000+ miles straight through. Wanted to take the southern route home so I went SE out of Amarillo and hit I20 east of Dallas. Glad I hit Dallas mid day and not at rush hour. I think the entire city is under construction.

but a burger at Blue Sky might have been better.
The green chile cheese burgers are really good and their fries are incredible. And they proudly display a nice sticker for the local LC club on their beer fridge. Next time. There's a large mall parking lot across the road from Blue Sky in the future for parking trailers.

Any thoughts on what the original finish might have been on the heat shields? I went through the first 50 or so search references but mostly found other types of heat shielding in the threads. There are 6 7 as far as I can tell and I would assume they were all the same finish although that isn't necessarily so. Maybe just a pewter paint finish? I suppose they could have been black originally but that seems like the wrong choice for a heat shield. I was thinking of going with a silver ceramic coating for the finish? I'm guessing they don't get that hot but probably too hot for regular paint.

The rest of this post is not overly pertinent to the question about finish but thought I would document the information.

Two of the shields are bolted to the underside of the body, more or less under the rear seat. One of mine was missing but I'm pretty sure I found it in the parts pile that I got with the pig (one on the left in the second photo).

Two are part of the exhaust system. One over the muffler and one connected to the flange/hanger in front of the muffler. I am missing the one attached to the flange/hanger.

The last two three are in the engine bay. One bolted to the steering gear housing and one bolted to the chassis under the exhaust pipe in the same area. Edit: and one on the passenger side (see below).

Edit: Forgot about the passenger side one in the engine bay. Probably more of a splash guard than a heat shield though. Definitely originally black though.

Not a single one left on my 55 when it got to me, but all pictures I’ve seen were silver, I like the ceramic coat idea.

Think engine bay was Flat Black 🤔🧐. Not sure though 😉

From the ones I've seen still on trucks, Bob is right, engine bay ones are black but more satin finish than flat. Underbody ones are silver and likely were pewter.

I just looked at the engine bay shields and agree that they were black originally. Some of the finish is still there; I just needed to look closer. The others are definitely different, almost like a galvanized finish at this point so probably some version of silver or pewter originally. Appreciate the input.

Not sure how hot the ones in the engine bay get. Probably not that bad. Might be able to just use the same satin black/chassis black paint as the frame and belly pans.

I started stripping frame attachments today. Removed the fuel tank and supports, the spare tire carrier and support, and the long fuel and brake lines that run on the passenger inside rail this morning. So far all the bolts have come out clean.

I was relieved to see the internal condition of the fuel tank. Looks brand new on the inside. I don't know if Redline Cruisers had it cleaned when they pulled it out of "the barn" or if a PO did something but there is absolutely no reside, crud or anything. Tried to take a photo but that didn't work out so well. I keep meaning to buy a borescope that works with your iPhone but never seem to get around to getting one ordered.

Went back this afternoon for a couple of hours and got the shocks, exhaust, and a few more odds and ends pulled. I did break one of the three manifold studs off unfortunately. Hard for me to tell sometimes if the nut is loosening or the bolt/stud is yielding. There's close to 1/2" protruding from the manifold so once I pull the manifold I will deal with that stud. I was planning on changing those studs anyway. Guessing lots of PB Blaster and a torch will be necessary.

I was a little surprised when I pulled the rear shocks off the mounts. At first I though there was a plastic tube over a stud that I needed to remove but then I realized that was all metal and had the original, shiny black finish. I guess the shock rubber sleeves were always a tight fit over the years.
