I filled out their quote request form so I should know pretty soon if they will rebuild one. Wasn't sure about which finish color(s) to select. They have about 6 different options. I chose satin black body with polished head. Looking at my box, my best guess would be cast steel/iron for the box and satin black for the head. I might just go satin black all over assuming they will rebuild it. :meh:
WTO won't rebuild Toyota boxes anymore. Redhead does nice work and they warranty them. Turn around is quick too.

Stripped all the steering components off today and did a little shop cleanup. Got the rolling chassis back under the lift. Starting to contemplate next steps. My plan is to use the lift arm(s) to remove the engine and then put the engine on a stand. I don't currently have a stand so that's probably step 1.

So please forgive my ignorance but I assume the bell housing stays with the engine and that is what bolts to the stand? If so, then maybe I should first pull the transmission, since it's supported by the bell housing, and then pull the engine?

I’ve always taken the bellhousing off and bolted the back of the engine to the stand. Seems like leaving the bellhousing would make it unnecessarily front heavy.

Yeah, bellhousing off when on the stand
Thanks to you both. Guess it would still be easier to drop the transmission first and then lift the engine and bell housing? I can then unbolt the bell housing and bolt the engine to the stand while it's suspended from the lift.

Redhead got back to me and they will rebuild the 55 box. I already sent it out UPS - with the pitman arm. My pitman arm puller just wasn't up to the task and I don't have the right jig for my press. They said they would pull it no problem. All it cost me was a little more in shipping.

I wanted to make sure there wasn't any varnish in my gas tank so I poured a quart of acetone in and let it set in various positions before draining it out into a bucket. Just a few flakes of dirt, which could have actually come off the outside, and no discoloration to the acetone at all. Again, very pleased with the condition of the tank.

Observed today that my water pump is a "for oil cooler" version and whoever installed it installed a hose with a bolt for a plug on that outlet. Kinda looks like the same bolt they used on the fuel return line hose. 😂 I have a new, correct water pump which I was planning on installing anyway.

The bellhousing supports the engine along with the front engine mounts, so removing the transmission is easy this way. You need to remove the clutch and flywheel before you can take the bellhousing off. If you can still lift the chassis on your hoist it's easy to do from the underside once you have the transmission off. Just make sure you have it secure on your lift.

If you need an oil cooler PM me. I have one I can send you.

Share the details, Cam, pistons, bearings everything! Guessing the leadtime is 6 months?

Does he build your 2F or you bring it in as a core when you pick up his build?
He will build mine. Nothing wrong per se with my 2F. I just thought now was the best opportunity to improve the drivetrain.
