And where did you find the NOS condensor?

Yemen. I bought a lot of parts from there when I was living in Riyadh. I recently bought a NOS fan shroud for my pig from him after I discovered that the PO had butchered mine to get an aftermarket radiator installed. Btw, I also have a NOS radiator for the pig from him.

So how far below the hood latch catch have you normally seen these condensers? It looks like there is a couple of inches or more of play vertically. So as high as possible?

Re: height- you’ll be focused on the condenser inlet-the fitting at the top of the condensor. As I recall the height is driven by the fact the hose and fitting coming off the condensor actually go into the core support. Likely you don’t have a hole there, but check upper RH side of core support behind the flange of the pinch weld the mount holes will go into.

Okay so I feel pretty stupid, as usual, and it's @cruiserbrett for the win. Thanks!!

The condenser does fit going in from the front and it looks like I just need to drill holes in the core support flange. I guess I should have broken out the tape measure instead of trying to make it fit. This time I cut the two triangular mounting tabs off that a PO installed and also removed the hood latch catch and support rod. So frigging obvious now.

@cruiserdan, thanks so much for the advice. I am assuming at this point that those brackets fit a different condenser because my condenser mounting tabs are wider than the core supports by a good 1/4" or so and won't fit in between on the radiator side.

Edit: Just checked the condenser part numbers for 1978 and they are the same. So I don't know. :meh:

USA: 88460-60020

It looks like with the mounting flanges on the front side of the core support flange there will be about 1/4" between the radiator and the condenser.

No hole but easy enough to make one. The PO butchered the passenger side core support top and bottom to run the lines to the aftermarket condenser that they installed. I will probably get the body shop to weld patches to those while it's in the shop. That would then give me a clean slate to drill with appropriate grommets at the top. Since the return line at the bottom doesn't need to be insulated it can probably be routed without a hole - maybe.

I'm thinking it should be mounted as high as possible but still below the hood latch catch piece?

The bottom line wont need a hole. the copper line(OEM) (or hose if you opt) should route through the opening below the headlight IIRC. The upper hose would *roughly* be about where the huge notch is up top, but it does NOT need to be a half circle. I think I was at about 1-1/8" - 1-1/4" OD hole to fit hose and a tight fitting grommet. BUT, do consider the bend the hose will need to take after passing through core support. May make sense for a smaller hole on inside of core support and larger or offset slightly(to rear of truck) hole so you don't chafe through grommet and eventually hose.

To center the bit for the upper hole location, I chopped a pencil down, and wrapped in just enough electrical tape to fit into the opening in the condensor port snugly. install condensor and pull out slight so you can mark the patched cor support needs to be drilled. It may take a few passes at chopping pencil to right length to get it to work well, so be patient but it made a dead on opening.

That IS butchered! Wow.
Musta been an emergency condenser install.
lol Pretty sure that was done at one of our known Ih8mud shops. Thankfully there's very little else that I have found butchered. FWIW, they did a great job on the in-cabin A/C equipment.

Guessing finding someone with a trashed front clip that could sell me a piece of the core support (to make it easier on the shop) would be a futile search.

That wouldn't be hard to patch with some fresh sheet metal.

FOUND THEM....

Left Monday morning with the pig and made it to Oklahoma City - long day. Got up Tuesday and actually made it to Flagstaff. Pig is now in the hands of @kelly saad.

Used most of a roll of Gorilla tape trying to keep that crash tape from coming off. 😂

Whatwhatwhat?!
Was just gonna ask if you were still here or if you’d already high tailed.
Vegas. Wife and two of our sons are flying in tomorrow. Chicago at the Venetion Friday night and Eagles at the sphere on Saturday. We saw them in October and decided our two unmarried, March birthday boys needed to experience the Sphere. Not to mention we were looking for any excuse to see them again.
