Researching winches. Found a Warn M8000 new in the box. Was asking $575 but said he would take $500. Said it is about 10 years old. Looks definitely different than the M8000 on 4WPs. Also the newer ones have parts made in China.

His doesn’t have the roller failrleads but how important are those and thy extend out beyond the front of the bumper.

Well didn’t expect to find a winch today but while at Superior Offroad saw a Warn and that got the winch wheels turning in my mind. A 60 in Oregon without a winch is like a man without legs. Here in the backwoods you need a Stihl saw, tow stap and a Warn winch. Been surfing CL off and on. Here is the M8000 that came up today.

For $500 and I’d be working in the area this week I knew I’d have to get it.

If you keep the wire cable you will need to get a roller fairlead. If you convert to synthetic line you can use that solid fairlead that you show in your picture. Highly suggest getting a snatch block or two to increase the pulling power of your winch. There are winch kits out there with tow straps, shackles, snatch blocks, gloves and tree savers. Now your accessorizing!

I learned recently that there are such things as hawse fairleads for wire rope. The fairlead would be made out of steel instead of aluminum, but it is a thing.

Waiting at the Hood River marina for the winch. Perfect timing on both our parts to meet at 10:30, mean’t to be I guess. Anyways my coworker shot some awesome Gorge scenery on the drive here to the job in Mosier. Very cold gusty east winds ripping down the Gorge. Had a nice head wind.

Since that's a steel hawes fair lead it can be used with the cable. The aluminum can only be used with rope. I prefer cable personally because I can drag it through rocks n dirt and not worry about it.

I think I'd still rather have a roller on steel cable even though it sounds like they now make hawes in steel. Seems like rollers would be less wear on the cable since it's not rubbing on the fairlead, especially when having to winch at angles.

At least for now I have a winch:bounce::bounce2:

Completely agreed,

Finally received the correct Mag seat lug nut with washer for the Hutchinson beadlocks. 4WPs have me a refund. Talked to Mike @ Hutchinson and he was not happy 4WPs was sending out the incorrect lug nuts for their wheels. Got me the style they recommended through Jon @ Gorilla.

Are you sticking with the helm joints or installing bushings?
