Took my kids out for the day to a kids play land. Almost there and I saw a beautiful red 88 stock cruiser.
I started drooling and got behind him. Kids saw it and ask... “ dad are you following the red cruiser”
I was like “yeah he has kids perhaps he’s going to the same place we were.”
Nope, just to Target and get out to chat. He just got it 3 months ago. Asked if he was on MUD. Said he was new to it and didn’t know his user name:bang:
I shot him my user name.
I was in such a hurry to check out his I left my phone in our highlander. :(

@boerboel313
It’s a full float rear axle and with disc brakes instead of drum that is stock on the 60. I’ve learned all this too.
The cross member is the stock which was highly modified for structure and support. Motor is the Cummins 4BT diesel.
Lucky bastard. One day i'll complete the heart transplant.
What is the gear ratio in the 80 rear.
4.11? 4.88?

Currently 411s. I'm looking at either the 4.88 or the 4.1 to transfer case. Same results, a little less $$$ but will need to grind the case a little.

Was a much busier week than I thought. Worked late and had to get home and take care of the family farm. Been working on a new pasture for my wife’s horses and since it’s been warm I’ve been watering the grass seed like crazy.

Worked today for the Oregon Department of Forestry at Spruce Run Campground on the Nehalem River. Job was to replace an aging hand pump for the well and install a submersible pump. The Ranger mentioned Cascade Cruiser group camping at the campground. When I had some time I wandered over to meet them. All the rigs were newer and not all were cruisers. Not one 60:(. I chatted a bit then went back to work. The 6” steel well casing was too low to the concrete pad potentially causing contamination so I welded on a foot of new well casing.

Installed the submersible and hand pump in the same well.

Got back to work with enough time to remove my front bumper finally. @Rustic76 will be glad I’m getting closer to getting his 4plus bumper. Also got the spare tire carrier removed. @boots4 is helping plan a work party Oct. 13th. Anybody who wants to come just let me know.

Was a great afternoon with my son Ryder working along side me. He helped me get the bolts off for the brake lines. Then watched as I did the cutting and grinding.

Rack was super helpful in allowing axle to be positioned.

Plasma cutter made for pretty quick work.

As far as I got in about 2 hours.

The shock mounts on that axle are the real killers... have fun with those. Its too bad you can’t use them on a 60

Did you remove the wheel hub from the axle to cut those brackets off?

I don’t remember, it’s been a few years since I did that project. I think definitely have to remove the e-brake hardware on the back of the backing plate.
Pulling the backing plate would make it a lot easier but I don’t remember if the backing plate just unbolts or not.

Looks like for the 80s axle I should get a 80s Master Cylinder and proportioning valve to better assist the brakes. Tips on this would be great. I’m sure @boots4 has great insight.

You want the Wilwood manual proportioning valve, way easier to use then the 80 LSPV.

Either way you’ll lock the rear discs up really easily without one, and it was pretty scary sliding sideways at 50mph in the rain in a 60. Wouldn’t recommend

Do you have a link on that proportioning valve Matt?
