Every? Mine doesn't. 😉

I mean, the dude was showing a gen III LS motor, which could be >20 years old with several hundred thousand miles with unknown history and maintenance.

He makes multiple assertions, which I disagree with. Compared to most motors, LS motors have very few external sealing surfaces, and GM used Silicone Rubber on those surfaces.

LS motors are well sealed.

They are not the same as the original small/big block chevy with cork gaskets...

Morning all! ☕

I agree with you. My 03 Chevy had a 5.3 in it with 200k on it when it was totaled to someone running a red light. It had 0 leaks on it and I never cracked open the engine. All original seals. Sure, it had the seepage which is normal and expected. It’s all about how you maintain the truck and do your oil changes, And using good oil. It will minimize the maintenance and upkeep you need to do.

Maybe the tittle of the video should say "leaks on a neglected engine". I have this tiny leaks after the swap in between the engine and the trans,
so i came across this video. New engine has about 1,000 miles. As I mentioned to @NeverFinis, I used a Chinese made oil pan. He asked if i added rtv on
the four spots on the bottom of the engine where the gaps are. I believe I did. I'm going to drain the oil and use the smoke machine to see where the leaks are. Next, going to change to the stock gm pan, think I have enough clearance. While the oil pan is out will inspect the area below and around the oil seal. Praying to the ls god that the leak is from the oil pan and not the rear main seal.

General question for the audience, there are no shortage of individual engines and transmissions on Marketplace. There are not a lot of engine and transmission packages (that aren't scammers.) Can I get a 6.2 or 5.3 and then purchase a transmission separately and then buy a harness and ECU from swaptime to make it all work together or do I need to find a complete engine/trans/harness/ECU set?

All comes down to your budget and rather pay higher for a more reliable option. In my case, I thought I could save some money by buying a used engine and trans in a running vehicle. Guess what. Found out the hard way after the engine blew up on the freeway after 20 miles. So I got another engine and had my cousin fully rebuilt it. I went with psi since the harness was plug and play, and their tuned ECU was like 200 bucks. If I were to go back in time, I would buy a rebuilt engine. Many people are scandalous. God bless them.

You can definitely buy them separately.

Depends on the transmission and engine. I believe the 6/8/10 speeds need to match, within a few specific years, the OS of the ECM.

It is safer to buy them together because one can't be certain if a particular year transmission will work with a specific engine ECM. It might be possible to change/program the TCM for the correct year though.

I don't think this is an issue with the 4 speeds and older ECMs.

I would never go older engine, newer gen trans. I would magic with the gen trans tha that gen engine came with. Example. Gen 3 LS with a 4l60 or 4l80. I would never try to make a 6 speed or 10 speed work with my gen 3. I’m sure it can be done. But that’s money and a headache I don’t want.

I think you should check out psi website, call and talk to someone. Maybe they can guide you.
You choose the engine, trans, alternator type, intake manifold, tire size, gear ratio... and they will make one.
I had good experience with them. They were prompt in answering all my questions. However, some don't like to use their harness.
I refused to buy cheap Chinese made ones. PSI is within my budget. See that you are in Washington State, if you happen to be in Seattle. I can show you my project, just don't gunpoint me and steal my LC. :)

I missed the part about Swaptime. Mitch mostly deals with Gen V LT engines, and thus 8 and 10 speed transmissions.

I was the first in an 80 series to use his Swaptime Muscle Car Module (MCM). I am running a 2020 Gen IV L96 with a 6L90e with the Gen V version of the MCM, but he does make a Gen IV MCM.

I would have Mitch make your harness if you are also buying the MCM from him. He can give you advice on engine and transmission that work well with his harness and MCM.

@cruisermatt do you have a clue about how much Freon these LS systems take with your ac hoses? I’m charging mine tomorrow. And I’m unsure how much I’m going to need.
I ran the factory amount and no issues in the hot NC summer.

Going back to the rear main seal leaking. This is my prediction as of why my rear main seal is leaking some oil. I'm upgrading to the aluminum dumbbell.
Stock GM uses a plastic one. Figure 3, notice how the rear main seal sticks out should be flushed.

SDPC Tech Tips: The Barbell Oil Galley Plug

  • Failure Mechanism: If the plastic barbell shrinks due to heat cycles or is omitted during a rebuild, high-pressure, unfiltered oil fills the area behind the rear main seal cover. This excessive pressure can blow out the seal.

The 4.7 is a ok motor, I dont like it enough to swap it in anything though. I have a 5.3 with 4l60e. It's not for wheeling really, it's going to be my daily driver, so I like the stock tcase for snowy/wet roads. It's not fast but it is quick. If u want to do a motor swap and decide against diesel, a LS is the way to go. All I have left is to wire up cruise control and install a fan shroud and the swap is done. It's quiet, and a nice drive. I used a stock 5.7 tundra muffler so it sounds just like a new tundra but it's a LS lol. A lot of people just dont have the money for a motor swap, but would like a lower tcase gear ratio. So if u want to make an adapter for 1fz guys for that I'm sure you'd sell some. A atlas is a good route if your tilted to offroad with it a bit if u can go v8.
Would you mind posting a picture of the Tundra muffler in there and maybe a video of it running? I have to come up with a quieter exhaust. Currently I just have the Magnaflow 2in1 18” with no resonators or cats and it is waaaay too loud. I appreciate it if you do.

I would like a quieter exhaust, I also have the magnaflow 2 in 1 muffler

I'm running a magnaflow with the stock LC cat. Love the deep v8 sound, that is not obnoxious like those honda street racers.

I am getting a gas smell in the garage and believe it is from my gas tank bent line. How have y’all dealt with this? I still have the purge valve on the motor and thought about hooking all that up , but was hoping if I just installed a vapor canister like the VC-120 that might work.
