80/20 with Stock Roof Rack

80/20 is the name brand, here is a cheaper option for those interested:

Another thing to note, Grainger carries 80/20 and if you pick it up at one of their locations, you wont pay shipping.

Cutting the stuff is also super easy, if it'll cut wood it'll cut Al.... you can use your miter saw, table saw, or circular saw

My '99 rack seems to be a bit off of the recommended 44" less 1mm sizing. It is consistent front/rear.

I'm thinking of doing this. I like. I see a lot of you guys have factory roof rails that attach in there locations on each side. Mine only have 2 attachments. Front and back. I'm thinking it would be nice to have three for more weight capacity. Is it a different year thing or just random?

Great idea will follow suit soon. But any examples of how you mount your items onto the crossbars, especially an awning please?

2” wide pice of 3/16 steel 8” long bent at a 90°

Got a pic? Or maybe an artistic rendition...? Having trouble conceptualizing this.

This looks like a robust solution.

Fwiw- I bought 3 8020 1” x 2” black crossbars to convert my factory rack and then decided to replace the whole rack. If anyone is interested, especially in the Colorado front range, I’m ready to get these out of the garage. They’re in the packaging from the T-nutz store, complete with fasteners.

Great recommendation, the only drawback is it costs almost as much as my awning... I'll think about it. Thanks though!

There are a lot of robust, cheaper options discussed in the mounting to stock rack thread.

some of these would probably work well

Another option for all the 80/20 type hardware, is to order from Misumi. MISUMI USA: Industrial Configurable Components Supply Shipping will typically take a bit longer than other options (especially mcmaster) but the prices are a lot more affordable.

Their stuff is a lot cheaper than 80/20 and is nearly identical in fit form and function.

did you drill out the rails near the roof bars so you can add mounting points as needed, or was that done by tnutz when you ordered?

Put series 10 on my 2005 lx 470. I don’t plan putting much up top so I opted the series 10 and did just standard bracket brackets. Length was 44 1/4”. Purchased from tnutz. I’m also happy to report that I only needed to remove the rear roof rack caps and slide the oem cross bars off. I like the flexibility of the slots. No noise yet.
