Next day I started my trek north and popped into Shepparton where a friend lived... we caught up and I checked out his new troopy!

I left late and ended up driving into the night, and arriving at a fellow 40 series owners place in Young about 8pm where I promptly had to get busy making dinner for miss 11.

We were graciously put up in a new hard floored camper trailer for the night (comfy AS!) and woke up to this beautiful outlook for breakfast:

tried out my bbq mount setup for the first time

and soaked up the serenity

We headed north with another lunch stop:

Before reaching a town called Coonabarrabran where it was way hotter than we'd expected (like ~30c) and so we hit up the local public pool:

Again we settled into a caravan park for the night (showers, toilets and rubbish disposal among other things made this attractive to me).

What a great trip for you and Little Miss 11!!!

I like your cooking set up! Have you learned any lessons now that you are using it? Anything you would do differently?

Excellent trip report, Andrew.
When I was that youtube vid on CLECS I saw the Tassie numberplate and the IH8mud sticker and thought "mmm this fella be from my island!"
I had a surge of motivation to attend next year but only just realised that the 70 series isn't invited... (maybe that will change!)
Why no 70 series?

Miss the squeak of pushing in the clutch pedal.

What was the “oh sh*t” moment?
just some 3 wheel action when the rear end dropped into the washout as i was crossing over it.. i was following the same line as the swb patrol in front... my mistake!

went camping/wheeling with a few 4wd clubs this weekend. some cool tight technical stuff.. really surprised by the pigs nimblness. 80 series and patrols were doing 3pt turns in the tight stuff but the pig could just pick its way through..

Yeh it was good to get away, thats for sure!

I think the cooking setup needs a bigger gas bottle.. there shouldn't be any issues with the BBQ but I struggled to get the 2nd burner lit and stay lit after i'd used a bit of gas.. so maybe a 2KG bottle is too small?.. I want to get some thicker rod that fits inside the outer tube better.. I only had 12mm solid rod when I built it so I had to put beads down the length to take up some of that gap, end result is that the tray (which is also a tiny bit too small) is often on an angle which pools all the fat in one corner. I offset that by recessing one end of the bbq in the tray while sitting the other on the edge.. worked better but not ideal. Also carrying the BBQ around inside the car was a bit of a hassle.. it would be good to perm mount it outside but in such a way liberating hands are catered for.
