I used these as guidance for selecting the correct amp rating to replace the fusible link wire. They matched and are from independent sources so I assume they are correct. Use at your own risk.

@Engineer8000 returned the one I have…finding the 3 prong plug was crazy…. And when it did find one, it was $14.00 plus shipping …usually $9.00

I paid $16…one with the 3 prong included as you mentioned…is $20

I was looking at my spare tire carrier hinges today. I realized they are the early - 72 variety. They have the hinge pin fixed to the piece that bolts to the carrier and are installed nut down. There are also no plastic bushings in these. I added the nylon washer because there is room with the shorter nut. Note in the second picture how much taller the nut is. So the nuts I purchased from Vintage teqparts are not correct for the pre 72 carrier. Luckily I had those zinc plated and was able to find them in the parts boxes. Now I need to decide if I get a set of the 72-75 hinges or roll with these without my nylon washer, I will need to adjust the attachment point on the tub down a 1/8 to get the latch to line up if I keep the washer, then it will be an odd ball.

Is the offset from the tub the same with the two style hinges? Never compared the two style of plate tire carriers but thought the offset was different.

The hinges worked with the 72-75 carrier just fine. I think the part that connects to the tub is taller on the later hinge, hence no offset in the part that connects to the carrier. I will post up some compare/contrast photos when I get the other hinges.

My new OEM fuel tank is painted in what I assume is black primer. The research shows these were painted black from the factory. Does anyone know if they were gloss, satin or flat? Thank you.

Here is my OEM tank, right out of the shipping box. You decide the gloss factor..

I think my 72 tank was satin black in 82 when I got it in 82. Mid 83 it developed a weep in a lower seam. I did the alcohol resistant liner treatment from JC Whitney. Has never weeped since. I think I sprayed the tank high heat barbeque black after fixing some corrosion pits where the pads were on the bottom and the top strap corners.

Interesting. Mine came from the dealer with the flat black, I assumed was primer. Your tank looks pretty glossy. Thanks for the great 73 only reference picture, it will be handy for assembly. Where did you get your jacketed fuel line? I got mine from Pelican for a decent price.

The jacketed hoses were from https://www.newcoproducts.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=34_44_303

Much less expensive when I bought them before Covid. The clamps are OEM Toyota. They just squeezed in over the hoses, and had the plastic coating on the nibs to avoid sharp edges.

I think I painted the straps satin black so I will probably paint the tank to match. Thanks to those who took the time to provide photos.

No problem. Good for me to actually get on the computer every once and a while. That's where those pictures are. Took a whole bunch pictures in 2007. Satin not a bad choice. Could take a damp cloth wipe and exposed part up tank. Only pulled to take a picture of the tank well. I have a few other OEM tanks could check.

Satin is my choice because gloss makes me think the leaks are worse than they actually are.

The saga continues on the spare tire carrier hinges. I received the new hinges and cleaned them up. (Thanks @kevos37 !) A couple days in the electrolysis bucket then wire brushing, sanding and primer. I zinc plated the washers and ends of the hinge pins where the threads are.

What I didn't notice at first is these are different designs. The one on the left is pointy and the one on the right is flat. I wonder which is correct for 73? I assembled the hinges and found the nut will not screw on one of the hinges far enough to fit the cotter pin. These are the nuts from vintage teq parts. At first I thought it was the hinges but started looking closer at the nuts.

These nuts are slightly different, one is about 1mm taller from the bottom of the nut to the cotter pin slot. One fits, the other doesn't. Bummer. I see that m16x1.5 castle nuts are not that rare so I will find some new ones and report back. Don't buy the nuts from Vintage Teq Parts.

I also did a side by side with the pre 72 hinges and see the early hinges indeed do clear the body by 1/4 inch or so. I know they may not look level in the picture but I did level both with a small bubble level.

Have you measured the depth of the early spare tire plates to the 72-74 and left side 75/76? Up to 72 could use the spare tire plate for armour plating. Stamping ribs allowed Toyota to drastically reduce the thickness of the plate.ayne the depth was reduced as well.
