I noticed the left side tail gate latch has this cutout, is this correct or has someone modified it?

DIY zinc plated the tail gate hinge pins.

Here are pictures of the left side latch on Louie. It seems to match the latch on the spare tire carrier. There is no hole in the top part of the latch.

FYI Love the work you are doing on your '73.

I worked on the spare tire carrier hinges. I added a nylon washer between the two rotating parts. I started with the washer shown and increased the ID using a step drill bit and a final little bit with the Dremel sander. I zinc plated the original washers and the threaded end of the hinge bolt. The nuts are from Vintage Teq Parts. Now they are ready for paint and reassembly.

Not much going on the last week or so. I had it with the body shop and brought home everything but the tub. I worked on one of the doors that had the limiter ears ripped off in the past and poorly repaired.

I was thinking on the wiring. I need 5 fusible links and three fused circuits under the hood.

FLs
main fuse panel in truck
EFI x 2
alt power
alt sense

fuses
headlights (using the upgrade harness, modified)
fog lights
OBA compressor clutch

I didn't like the thought of all that hanging off the battery terminal. I found this scrolling for ideas on ebay, they are made for VWs and AUDIs. It has 5 FLs and three fuses. It uses good bolted connections vs. plugs for the FL. I rearranged/replaced the fusible links for the ratings I need. Still need to replace the fuses with lower amperage. I crimped those Sumitomo connectors on the plug it comes with. It looks like there should be some seal where the wires enter, I need to find that still and I will need to change that main supply connector.

For what it’s worth…. That is great… I must have at least 6 wires hanging on the + and 4 on the - of the battery…it’s clean but I don’t like the look of it. Where would this be mounted?

I am planning on creating a bracket that attaches to the fender where the carb fan would attach. This would be there as well as the relays for the headlights, fog lights and compressor clutch. I'm modifying the headlight upgrade harness to work like that. I bought a second headlight upgrade harness to use for the fog lights and air compressor. They can be relatively inexpensive on ebay considering all the wire and relays you get.

See.... @Engineer8000 .... there you go. Now I have envy of the HP 11C on your desk. Particularly fond of the 16C as well.

That's a 15C, never could afford one back when they came out when I was in college. I got this minty one on ebay a few years ago. Nostalgia. I have a 12c financial calculator I use in the house that I picked up at a junk store for 10 bucks. Honestly, 99% of my math now days is done in excel.

If you ever need to re-pin one of these VW connectors, slide the purple part over opposite the arrow and the terminals should come right out. I had a little issue with the middle one, had to get out my Yazaki tool to get the tab to clear. Remember to pop the tabs up a little on the terminals before re-installing.

@Engineer8000 after seeing your post this morning it searched eBay and found this box and ordered it. Did the 3 pin connector come with it? I have a few watertight 3 pin connectors but I debate whether they will fit the box arriving on Monday. You should know this actually will make my battery LOOK NORMAL AGAIN !

I don't know if all of them come with the connector, the one I bought specifically showed it in the listing. I bought my replacement links from a VW parts place but I'm thinking they are the same as these HSB fuses by Littlefuse. Much less expensive from Mouser.
