Been working on windshield/fenders/hood/bib/bows. Fenders were in good condition, a few dents and bends from its prior life. Windshield that i got from 65swb45 was in good condition, just needed to fill holes from PO. Same with everything else, just needed small dent banged out and holes from PO filled.

I bolted everything on and everything lined up pretty good, still need to tweek it here and there.

I have 8 holes to mount my spare tire bracket, they look to be stock. I was wondering if anyone else with a early 1959 FJ25 FST has 8 or 6?

I made a new lens out of plexiglass for my LBP this weekend. It turned out ok. Let us know how the Hydex works. It might be easier for the FJ25 lens since it has a half-dome shape.

I was working on the 25 today and remembered to take a pic of the lens I made:

No, I don't think I took any before installing it. I made a die to press the plastic into shape with. I took a 3/4 block of wood cut to the shape of the inside of the lens cover (a little smaller to allow room for the plastic all the way around) and epoxied a ~1/2" tube to it to create the contour. I then placed the softened plastic over the inside of the lens cover and pressed the homemade die into it. Make sure you give it enough time to cool or it will want to return to its natural flat shape. I ran the part under cold water while still pressing it together with my hands. All I had to do after that was trim the plastic to fit and drill 2 holes for the mounting screws.

Ok, I have to admit that it took me like 4 tries to get it right! Hope that helps.

Thanks, the description will do. Looks to be a nice solution for broken/missing pieces like that lens. The plexi glass lens worked for my LBP but cracked a little when I screwed it in, might try to use Hydex for that as well.

Im looking for a drivers side knuckle and hub for a FJ25 (or pre 63 FJ40, i think they are the same) Anyone have an extra?

Trying to figure out what i need to do to put a FJ40 tie rod and tie rod ends on a FJ25.
I have searched around but can't make sense of what to do. In one thread it says to shorted the tie rod, but that didn't make sense, the FJ40 tie rod is shorter than the FJ25.
It looks like it would work by running the tie rod ends long to reach the knuckle arms?
If anyone has done this could you let me know what you did to make it work? ( or if anyone has found a source for new FJ25/ early FJ40 tie rod ends)

thanks

If you want to install 40 steering on a 25 all you need to do is install the steering arms and tie rod complete with ends from a 40. That is the only change necessary, the remaining steering can stay the same. This will get you clearance at the wheels to run 40 or aftermarket rims, and give you stronger steering components.

If you wish to retain the 25 arms and change to 40 tie rod ends you will need to provide a longer tie rod to fit the 40 ends. This will gain you a stronger tie rod and ends.

There has to be tie rod ends that can be substituted for the 25 pieces. Someone needs to do the legwork and compare the dimensions of available components, the early application was never popular to begin with and has completely fallen off the radar.

Still wondering about this. Parts book shows 8 holes. Does any one with a older FJ25 have the same set up??

Getting closer to send it to the paint shop, i need to beat it a little more with a hammer. Been also trying to get the tranny working, had some frozen gears that wouldn't budge. Soaked them with PB blaster most of the summer and hammered in some wedges to try to get them to separate without any luck. Then a couple weeks ago i but some used brake fluid on the gear that was stuck, two days later i gave it a wack with a hammer and it popped lose. Not sure if it was the brake fluid alone or the combo or just luck.

Thanks Archie. Mine was built in 58, sold as a 59. Seems like the fenders went to 4 bolt in 1960.

Anybody have a source for the transfer case front output shaft Retainer, dust seal. the inner seal part number works but nothing for the outer dust seal??

thanks

Im looking for a pre 1964 metering rod for my Aisan SD40 carb. Anybody have an extra they could spare?

You can see the spare that was SUPPOSED to be nested inside PN BM.

Antony,

I have never measured them, but I think it's reasonably safe to assume that the spare rod was a slightly different size.

The extra time I put into the pre-cleaning was definitely worth it IMO.
