Pappy, I found that document a few weeks ago through some PDF search engine, and did not know the author. Great to know who did it. Good to put a screen name to a work of art. Kind of like putting a face to a name.

Tucker, if it makes you feel better, my intake looks like major crap. My issue is that I am the third owner since the motor ran, so I don't want to spend too much $$ until I hear it run and see if it leaks. I plan on putting new pan gasket in while it is out, check a few things out and then let it ride; but I figure I would browse your parts list and price list to see what makes sense to purchase and do while it is out.

I almost forgot, I adapted my fj for saginaw, but it appears that the alternator is exactly in the way. Anyone have a saginaw in their 3fe?

I added the part numbers and prices I paid to post #2, I traded a buddy the OEM 2F valve/side cover gaskets I had for the 3F versions so don't have a price there. Mine was leaking from the side cover and front timing cover mainly, and the rear main seal fell apart in my hand as I pulled it out.

Hope that helps -

Tucker

BTW: I did media blast the upper intake, clean the TB, and had the injectors done ... so it's not like I've totally neglected the top end ;)

So, what beer have you been brewing? Do you frequent Austin Home Brews?

I just brewed my first full grains last year (5 gallon), I welded up a 15 gallon keg to be my mash tun in a TIG class I took a couple years ago. Very happy with it -- fully insulated it inside a aluminum skin.

I have used Austin brews since my start brewing 6 years ago. started with their mini-mash, and worked my way up. I love the hoppy brews, but find hops too expensive still. On the hoppy ones, I can spend $50 to brew 5 gallons or buy a great keg of beer (5 gallon) for about 70 bucks or a 15 for $160 and be really happy. Last keg I got was Dale's Pale ale, and before that was three floyds alpha king. I can't make beer that good. I stick with a belgium white to keep the wife happy, and then I brew a stout, lager, or my favorite lately is using Austin's Black recipe. Our local chapter here in KC is having a meeting this weekend, I plan on bringing a 5 of something..... maybe the black. I know Ednol likey a little bubbly...

In fact, I was just in Austin last month and went to Live Oak and down to Uncle Billy's after some recommendations on the yahoo 3fe board. Live Oak had a heavy beer that was.... well... different. I really liked the porter at Billys.

Well, keep up the good work.

for saginaw pump? I haven't tried it yet but have the parts lying around in wait. Why could't you use either the smog pump bracket from a 2f down low and move the alternator up to the other side with a 2f alternator bracket? Or mount the saginaw where the smog pump is now on the 3f and put a york or something else where the powersteering pump is? Ok.. back to lurk mode for me.. Continue on and I'll just read. Thank you for figuring all the parts out..

Erik-

I assume your responding to my qeustion about a sag. in a 3fe swap. Since you are volunteering to assist, and you are just across town, you will be called apon to figure this out.

Hate to invent the wheel, figured someone had done it already.

If it's on the stand, and you can rotate it, how about inverting the engine and spraying the intake ports down with intake cleaner?

I found your thread this morning and see you fully went down the rabbit hole I'm trying to stay out of :D These pics should make you feel a bit better, got my intake back from plastic/glass media blasting and painted it:

Going to get this installed and start on getting my old driveline removed today, already hit some of the hardware with PB Blaster yesterday in preparation ;)

So I started tearing apart the 40, man there were lots of rusty bolts on the front end :frown: Here's where I ended up, goal is to have everything ready to pull for next weekend:

Next up is removing the interior so I can get to the transmission cover ... then the drive shafts ;)
