This is an interesting thread! It's like a "Registry" of sort...
According to the
SOR page: For 1973 there 11,218 units of FJ40 / FJ55's out there. Of that 11k, I wonder how many are still rolling with a (the) factory 2F engine?!🤔

I believe the 73 would have a 1 F or a 11/2 F but not a 2F which I believe came out in 1975 ?

If you have an original 2F in your 40 or 55, please post up your engine serial number, and the month/year of your truck build and the vin if you would. I am trying to complie 2F year data.

I will be posting this up in the 60 section as well.

Thank you for your help!

2F 235089
Feb 1978
FJ40267259

This FJ was imported from Columbia, SA so the month is a logical guess based on VIN and engine number build dates I got from a chart

March 1976
2F 078306 (According to some posts earlier in this thread this is a 1978 engine but according to the info on SOR and CCOT this is an early 1976 engine.)

I will get that info for you when I go to the storage building. Will and 2F engine fit in a 1977 or were they year specific?

Did Toyota use a different stamp Font script on any of the engines in the 70"s. I ask because I have seen two different stamped fonts on engine blocks. Thanks

Check out SOR's website.
Thanks, I saw that, but it's inconclusive. I was really thinking out loud; I should stop doing that. Maybe it's a sign of old age...

The number is within the date range for the VIN, but there isn't anything listed for JUN-SEP :(

My curiosity is caused by the fact some PO registered it as a "Reconstructed" vehicle, which has absolutely no definition in NC. I'm pretty sure the important parts are the factory originals, and the "reconstructed" part just offends my sense of order.

Someone posted that their 2F 183513 is from a June 1977 production date FJ40, only eight numbers away from you.

See Post #286 for spreadsheet link:

That's gospel enough for me!
