Bitching and moaning in here too? Couldn't you guys keep it on Facebook, where this stuff is so in vogue?

Toyota is killing it with the TNGA platform. I'll def buy one. Probably a GX.

I don’t like it…I don’t like it in a house, with a mouse, with a fox, here or there or anywhere.

Got me curious enough to take a look when they hit the show room. Selling a Luxury Lexus 300 series and selling a second different model is a step in the right direction. 200 series was mainly some cosmetic differences between the Toyota and Lexus models.. Personally like the round headlights on yellow with the white. If they would have offered a four door that looked like this when the FJ Cruiser came out might have been more interested. Tailgate, hatch and spare tire on the back would be a big plus.

I like it. I'm not against hybrids per se, however would a hybrid have a 25 year minimal service life in a third world country? And if not, could you really call it a Land Cruiser? If all we get is a hybrid version, we're still getting crapped on in the LC department of Toyota. I'm sure my contentious words will enflame someone, not my intention. Help me know why I am wrong, if I am.

Hybrids will not be available for 3rd world markets. They will receive the 1GD-FTV or the 2TR-FE engines only.

I guess my point is we get the 10 year model and everyone else gets the 25 year model. Again, I’m not opposed to hybrid, in fact I’m attracted to buying one as a hybrid. But for me, the irresistible draw to a LC is the unbeatable shelf life and reliability, that you will not get out of a hybrid. I will say this though, maybe Toyota is deplatforming the LC as a luxury flagship in the US so in the next several years they can bring in the bare bones 300 and other models. Hopefully 😁

Toyota has hybrids down pat. They aren’t going to release something that won’t adhere to LC QDR.

My 2010 Prius just passed 239k miles on original battery and inverter/converter. And I have **hammered** the fuuuuuuuck out of my Prius. There isn’t a straight body panel on it. 😂😂

That’s amazing, truly, well beyond the 8-10 year, 150k mile average 😁…still not LC material, IMHO😁

supposedly 9.5" rear end? yet to be confirmed, but that would definitely get it some points.

Toyota has said it in more than one video I've seen (about the GX, so same difference) that its getting that rear end.

Your 100 series must be more reliable than mine if absolutely nothing went wrong before 25 yrs that could have stranded you. All vehicles have issues - the question is can we fix them? Nothing enflamed here - just think that you're looking at past Cruisers through rose colored glasses.

From what I've seen I think they nailed it, especially the base spec.

- Ditched the all luxury bloat and cost
- Back to bomber cloth, manual seats, lots of hard plastic, built to last and use
- Kept the perfect 112" wheelbase
- Center and rear locker
- Finally fixed s***ty mileage and range with a bomber hybrid and 27mpg
- Mid 50K price point (same inflation adjusted price as my 92 when my folks rolled it off the lot)
- Made self-anointed purists mad on social media
- Made 200 owners cry "Prado" when they really meant "depreciation"

All good signs. I hope they didn't botch payload.

Personally I am thankful Toyota is producing great vehicles that I want to buy - but then again, I'm not like OMG WTF HAHAHA ITS NOT AN SAS AND DOESNT HAVE A HATCH?!?!?!?

So predictable.
I’d miss the tailgate, but in the high country the big lift gate is good shelter when switching out boots or clothes in heavy snow.

I love mine too... but the engineers needed to switch it for weight savings and to help pass modern crash testing, iirc (I'm remembering what they said when the 300 was announced). Good point about the lift gate as well. There's always pluses and minuses.

Btw.... bolded might be my favorite parts.

I disagree. Apart for basic maintenance items that can be sourced in a third world country, you tell me what a LC 100 would need. I can tell you that mine with 256k just had its first timing belt, replaced the original radiator as a pm and otherwise has never had a major issue.

When I was stationed at Fort Benning, all of the taxi cabs that I took off post were Toyota Siennas. All of them (5 or so different cabs) had over 750k miles on them. I asked every cab owner what they’ve had to do to keep them going, and they all answered the same; oil changes and basic wear items like brakes, tires etc. We put over 260k flawless miles on my wife’s sienna, with only oil changes and brakes, it still runs and drives like bran new. I spent $150 for an inspection at Toyota recently and told them to fix anything it needed, it needs nothing at 260k miles.

Most Toyotas are unstoppable if properly cared for, but the Land Cruiser are a notch above.

I don’t think hybrids are bad or unreliable, all I’m saying is making a hybrid Land Cruiser seems to be in opposition of Toyota’s philosophy of a 25 year vehicle. In other words, give us an option, to have one in hybrid or non-hybrid.

Below is a short video describing the extra effort Toyota puts into their Land Cruisers. They use the 200 in the video, however it began with the 80, unless I’m mistaken. No rose colored glasses here, I just recognize that traditionally the Land Cruiser is flat out the best vehicle ever made, not perfect, but the best. I just look at the hybrid components as a weak link.

*edit: additionally, if a 100 leaves you stranded, it’s likely due to your own neglect😁

I do agree that it comes down to “can we fix them”, and that’s exactly what I’m getting at. Can the average person fix a hybrid? I say no.

I would also say this, my argument is based on the individual owner having the goal of the hybrid system working properly for over 500k miles or more. If the hybrid system fails, doesn’t negatively affect the operation of the vehicle And the owner is in no need of repairing it, then my entire argument is void 😁

I know what you’re saying and I wonder about the hybrid feature. My wife drives a hybrid RAV4 and those cars traditionally will go a couple of decades. But beyond fluid changes and basic PM i will have to go back to tech school if something really went wrong. But then again knowing how flawlessly this RAV4 has been operating I don’t fear the hybrid LC! The hybrid feature is definitely more complicated but remember when Toyota introduced the automatic tranny and fuel injection and electronic ignition! When I had my 200 and looked through that mass of technology I thought to myself, could I diagnose and fix this thing if something went wrong?
There is the big question, what could go wrong?

If anything, this conversation is making me more and more comfortable with buying a hybrid LC😁
