The owner of this Cruiser suggested we do a build thread. So here we go…

First up this is a 2022 double cab HZJ79. This Cruiser is used in the mining industry. We are not going to get into anything else about it here in the build thread. Simply sticking to the build.

We were contacted recently by the owner who was not real happy with the 1HZ. As most of us know the 1HZ will run forever but they are not known for power. So 1HDFTE with a H152 swap it is!

Here is the Cruiser.

It’s a totally stock truck right now. Besides the FTE swap we will be installing a Superior Engineering lift kit, some 255’s on OEM steelies and some Department of Interior goodies. Thats about it.

The 1HZ R151 and tcase will be available once we begin the swap, around 5,000kms on it.

Right now we are rounding up all the parts to build a long block. It is also getting a GTurbo red wheel and all the goodies. Will be doing the DPF hood with a top mount intercooler as well.

Cheers

You have got my full attention, sir.

Let the fun begin.

Looks fun - more pics please!

Is that a factory rear sway bar that I spot? Don't think Aus spec come with a rear from factory.

I have one in my DC, I like the way it helps the handling with weight.

Most parts for this build are here now besides the long block, trans and tcase. Depending when they arrive we are planning to start the swap at the same time, hopefully that is March.

A little more about the swap;
-New long block 1HDFTE
-New H152 5spd with H151 input swapped in.
-New HF1A tcase
-NPC billet flywheel and 1300 clutch.
-Brand new HDJ79 ECU.
-ARP head studs to be installed on the new long block.
-GTurbo red wheel
-New FTE injectors modified for 30% more fuel.
-Unichip
-PDI 1VD airbox
-2016+ DPF hood (large scoop).
-Cross Country large top mount intercooler suited for the DPF hood.
-Yanmar FTE valve cover.
-Brand new OEM FTE injection pump.
-Manta 3” SS exhaust.
-HPD catch can.

A fair amount has been added to the build besides the swap, this includes;
-Superior Engineering 2.5”(ish) lift kit with caster correction radius arms and remote resi shocks.
-16” steelies with 255’s.
-Department of Interior overhead console, rear cab panel and sub panel plus door cards.
-Nice Aussie specific 79 head unit (they are a funky size not readily available in the USA), nice amp and speakers throughout.
-70th Anniversary trans shifter console sorround is pending.
-DPF hood will need to be painted to match, all Toyota body parts come in black ecoat primer.
-Going from a 60/40 front bench seat to two buckets.

Cheers

Did you consider UFI turbo instead of Gturbo ?

nutso build

Neat that it is local, might have to consider the 1hz when it comes available.

It’s a great combo for a 40/55/60/70.

Current KMS on the 1HZ/R151 combo.
