What does the "NO 017" mean at the bottom of the VIN tags like in this picture?
Undefined. It's probably a sequence code or check code of some sort.

So two-tone green/gray exterior… Is this actually two-tone or does it just mean the gray side molding?

From the top of the belt molding down and the fender flares.

I stand corrected - I am NOT one of those nine. I read it as the gray side molding. Good info!

I also made a comment around the only factory options and I included no roof rack as an additional factory option. Am I incorrect on this as well? Was the roof rack a port add-on?

Here's a linky to a nice selection of US 80 Series brochures.

As an aside, if anyone has the "final" version of the brochure for 1997 and is looking to perhaps part with it, plz send me a message.

Cool info. That said, does the brochure indicate the difference between factory and port options? I may be missing it.

It appears there was some variation of brands/ quality between, SET, CAT, GST, etc. of hitches and wood grain and some dealers ordered them without several small accessories that could be added easily at the dealer to enhance profitability.

I also read there was an odd % that had to receive Roof Racks and Rear Wind Deflectors does anyone know if that was the case or was it just the style of the era that most wanted the look with those options, so the majority ended up with those 2 items.

Beginning in 1995 Roof racks, running boards and hitches were restricted to port-only and only a specific percentage of the total units could get them. I don't remember the percentage but I think it was around 30%. The reason was related to the EPA weight-based classification of the vehicle. Those options pushed the curb weight past the threshold. 1995 also saw weight reduction with the change to a 343 transmission from the 442, aluminum radiator instead of brass and the deletion of the third row center seat belt.

There was a work-around for dealer installs. Dealers could order "un-branded" versions of those items directly from the OEM vendors, in plain boxes. Running boards from Flex-N-Gate, roof racks from JAC Products and hitches from Valley.

1 of 24 collectors edition. Lockers and Moonglow Pearl. Talk to the owner and he may be willing to sell

Those definitely don’t peel off and reapply without looking like you removed it. Looks like someone taped over the edges when they painted the jam and then did a terrible job with a razor blade to remove the tape

I have a locked 40th with the console #0043. Realize after reading this thread that it does not reflect anything with the production. I am curious about another one I have. It’s a blue locked 97. Was told by a friend of my son (he’s a pretty knowledgeable 80 guy) that there were very few made with this combination. The number he gave me was around 15 produced.

Night Shadow Pearl 8K0 with diff locks = 15
Just picked up a Nightshadow Pearl with diff locks. 1 of 15?!

what is "nightshadow pearl"? Is this blue? I zoomed in on the pick but it's hard for me to determine the common shade. Thanks and apologize for my lack of knowledge on the 80 colors. Jimmy
yes, it’s a blue color. The paint is in amazing shape. It needs to be cleaned and waxed.

It doesn’t havre the 40th badge on the fender? Not sure that 40th Anniversary models came in that color?
Sure its not a Collector Series?

Dan, is there anything in the Vin that confirms a 40th or collectors edition ?
Or is it just the badges and color combos.

Thanks

This thread is for both 40th and Collectors Edition...

First line from the original post:

"Several have asked me to provide these numbers, so I'm sharing with the entire 80 community. Here are the actual sales numbers and an in-depth breakdown for 40th Anniversary and Collector Edition Land Cruisers."

There isn't a specific digit of the VIN that establishes it. A Toyota dealer can do a VIN inquiry and that information, if the records are extant, will establish it.

If memory serves, there is one feature that both the 40th and Collector have in common that is not found on the "standard" vehicles. That is the climate controls. The 40th and the Collector have temperature settings like the LX450, the standard controls have a sliding hot-cold knob. That is one attribute that would be challenging to "fake".

If the paint is original and Antique Sage, it's a 40th. If it's Emerald Green, it could be either. If it's any other color, it's a Collector.
