I don't see it as overboost.
My reason is; it glows, not a steady intense glow but comes and goes in intensity. It never "Turns on" this is during the full spectrum of boost from 0 to 13. I am wondering if it indicates boost leak, although I haven't found any indication of that either. It started doing this when the timing belt indicator came on, I thought it could be light bleeding from that indicator, but that's a good distance away.

Check my response to this in your post in the diesel section, that's not normal, I'd check grounds to start.

Well I was thinking of making a new panel with fold down lockable door and keeping that entire area as storage.
Something like this

It's an overboost light.

You have something going on regarding your cluster lights.

nice 80 Classic85! congrats on the new ownership! i love seeing the enthusiasm from you guys now that these rigs are finally USA legit! i've hummed and hawed about eventually selling mine, now that it too is close to 25 year import being a 91. BUT, i wouldn't know what to replace it with! she's been a great rig to us! an hz105 maybe? but where am i getting one of those in todays market?!

anyway, all the best with all the mods and wishing you many years of happy reliable ownership!

i've got a two tone too! (she arrived in canada in 2006 with only 42K kms. getting close to 200K too)

We have been very busy these last few weeks, one of which is ensuring Bella retains her beautiful complexion. So, on to rust prevention for her skin. I looked around quite a bit to find that rust prevention is not that popular a subject, and everyone has different methods. I finally settled on this guys idea.

So off to home depot for oil and toilet wax rings, $16.00 in parts, including a spray bottle.

Got home and started to strip her down for a good bath (No pics ya pervs) She needed some good scrubbing down low on the inside of her doors, a few years of mud packs and not fully rinsed, but overall good shape.

Looks close to brand new

Also gave the window tracks a clean to help over winter, they are not slow but thought I would take the extra care being in the area. Then I melted down some toilet bowl wax seals in some Linseed oil.

Then we boiled down some wax toilet bowl rings in linseed oil. It reduced well, then we placed it in the fridge for a cooling off period. This brought the consistency back to peanut butter, Creamy of course. we then warmed it back up and poured it into my $1.49 spray bottle. And ran down my three flights of stairs with the solution still warm.

When I first came to Chicago I noticed that there is an unusual amount of brand new cars here, lots of Mercedes and lots of BMW's but just generally lots of newer cars. At first I thought Wow, people make good money, they can afford new cars every few years. Boy was I wrong. Its a necessity, the salt and sand on the roads just eats your car especially if you don't care for it. So, lets see if some makeup will help slow that down.

So then we sprayed down all the interior panels. I sure hope this helps her looking young. There is only three spots of rust on the entire vehicle; RR passenger door, this area will need special restoration attention. Its not THAT bad but a "few" blemishes forming on the exterior, has not broken paint. The other two areas are rear side windows lower edge, the same spot as everyone else that owns an 80 series. One funny thing, I placed my hand down the rear corners were the turn single wires and sub was, it was full of oil, same on the other side. So the previous owner really cared.

Here she is with some makeup. Well moisturizer at least;

And the tail gate

So basically, I used two wax rings and a full can of oil. I went pretty thick with the spray, it did 4 lower doors, back wheel wells and rear corners, back hatch and lower gate (hard to get to without a wand) and a bit of the two front fenders (again with the wand)

The beer is for my buddy helping with timing belt and water pump next.

That would be him. I just emailed him a few days ago to see if this truck had ever sold - I wasn't quite ready for an 81 when he put it up for sale… now I am ;)
The trucks Outback were bringing in at that point were really nice (Randy bought that one after seeing the BJ74 I got from them. We both had rusty BJ70s previously). They were *fully* serviced by ATEB, an awesome shop here in Vancouver. Outback trucks were expensive… and worth it.

I think the guy he sold it to flipped it to me. Yes, ATEB is #1, I talk them up to anyone that will listen and proudly display their sticker under the hood. Outback is sadly no more but I think the guys went to Radd, on the island, or Radd bought Outback, not 100% on that. Who ever owned this truck cared, it shows. Is Randy on mud? would love to chat if he is up to it maybe you could hook something up.

A week and a bit on now. My comments on the oil wax combo. The method has hardened well, providing the seal i was after but truck needs to air out a bit.

Yea randy sold and got a cummins, I have know him for years also, great guy!

Last weekend was enhancing the sound. Nothing crazy just a little bit of punch when required. Sunny, warm, long sleeve t-shirt, in Chicago in December, WHAT?

First empty the crap that's collecting

Next up; all RCA's, 2 cat5 and re-run all speaker lines from the head unit back. That will take care of rear camera, 5 channel amp, remote control from head unit, one extra RCA line going back to the head unit for a PS3 or Raspberry pie2 and an additional CAT5 for future unknown whatever.

I have not figured out an effective way to mount the safety hub, that will be some thinking, collaborating and head scratching for down the road.
Next was a 5 channel amp, mounted to a WholeHog mounting panel. Waiting on a Panasonic 8" free air sub, we'll see how that sounds.

20151119_163633.webp

I Modified the panel a bit by drilling some holes that will accept Toyota stock wire clips and plastic mounting thingies, so on final dress of the cables it will be, clean, tight, and rattle free.

20151119_195531.webp

This stage, took some work, pulling everything in and out a number of times. The reasons where various, some regarding the amount of cable that was being run down the side channels this would not allow for body panels to go back in easily, So this needed to be played with and massaged. Getting all the cabelling to lay just right took almost a full day.

20151119_195546.webp

This big white wrap of cable is speaker and RCA. This is the run giving me issues with the final body panel mount.

20151119_195605.webp

And more to come tomorrow.
