I don't have any kind of sand blaster or parts cleaner..
I saw my sons old rock tumbler sitting in the garage and thought I would try something.
Grabbed a hand full of bolts and nuts, added some loctite rust resolver and let it run for about an hour.
Came out supper clean. I was supper happy. I wish I would have taken a pic of before. Those bolts and nuts were nasty/rusty junk.
Know they look brand new.

Painted a few of parts, engine side cover, air cleaner, brackets, and exhaust intake. I am happy with the turn out. It took FOREVER to sand/grind/clean.
I need a dang blaster cabinet.

Getting there. Head Torched to spec, manifold on.
Need to find the heat shield that goes on top of manifold between carb. anyone?
Hopefully will have valves adjusted tonight and carburetor, valve cover and misc. items on tonight.
Also, anyone out there know where I can find a AC bracket? Mine mounts on the left side. You can kind of see the PO's bracket...pretty cheesy.

Wasn't the heat shield integral with the carb spacer in '75?

Non usa truck.

But yes the shield and insulator are all ine piece.

Trying to convert everything I can. ;)
If I knew then what I know now, I may have purchased a different truck..but it is what it is. So I'm just running with it.

Well s***! Got it all back together, and I have an exhaust leak from hell.
2 choices, put another gasket on so I would have double gaskets..I heard that was an option that works.
Or take the damn manifold to machine shop to get milled.
Any thoughts on this?

A remflex gasket might work as well.

Super Happy right now. All buttoned up and running good. Even seems to have a little more pep in its step.
Ran around block few times, let it sit and ideal and cross fingers.....all good. Ewwww

Just a carb adjust question I posted on another thread.

So I purchased a TCP 7” polisher. Broke it out on the Tundra today. My older son has had it at college in OK and it was dirty as chit. He’s gone to Canada to play summer ball so it’s mine for 3 months.
My question is, I used meguiars ultra finishing polish 205. Do you wax after or just leave it be? The black surface looks really good. It is a Mirror finish. As advertised

My TRD Pro is been on the back burner since I have been dealing with engine issues on the FJ40. No extra money
Thanks @kevos37 for hooking me up on the 2F.

Picked up my “new” engine today!
Thanks for all the help @kevos37 !

Now the fun task of pulling the old one out setting it aside...(rebuild at later date)

Going to strip the new one down, replace gaskets, clean, paint, etc... while out.

I hope I don’t have any issues with this having all the smog setup. To keep it on, or not?

Any suggestions? Pros/cons....

More pics on cleanup coming.

Cracked the transmission, so....stupid question.
The slide gear on the left.. when I slide it forward or back the gears will not move.
Only in the position it’s in right now.
Why

Got all the smog stuff off the engine, and most of the other miscellaneous parts. Ordered all the pertinent gaskets, rear seal, pilot bearing, etc.. should be here Friday. Gonna get the rest of the parts off tomorrow. Strip all the grease and crap off the engine so I can prep for paint.
Any suggestions on engine paint?

Anyone know what I need to do with all these hoses going into the base of the carb? The smog stuff.

Also ordered all the plugs/caps for the smog deletion.
I will probably restore all the smog parts and install later.... I don’t know.

Well, finally got everything hooked up. Swap went pretty easy, just time consuming.
Run down....
New(to me) 2F Engine cleaned, painted, new oil pan gasket, timing cover gasket, rear main seal, de-smogged.
Transmission and transfer case cleaner and painted.
Drive shafts cleaned and painted, one u-joint needs to be replaced..will later. Not to bad.
Emergency brake assembly painted.
Every nut bolt and misc brackets cleaned and painted.

Engine seems to be running good. Had some timing issues and a carb adjustment.

I will have to pop the top of the carb and adjust the float. When ideling the looking glass is below half.
But still runs good...

Oh, and the temp was shooting to 240-250.. I thought. Replaced thermostat and opened radiator cap to watch flow.
Looks like flow is good.... I thing either the gauge is messed up or the sending unit is bad.
Any ideas?

Looking to use that raptor liner for the inside of the back and floor.
Is the red close to freeborn red? Anyone know?
