If you can't find what you need locally, check with Scott at Cruiser Corps.

Thanks Lee, I think Grant is going to take care of me on those parts. Looking forward to hearing what weber has to say. It would be nice if someone on mud could make up some mechanical linkages for the weber carb and stock pedals instead of the cable and drilling more holes method that is now widely used.

Nice ... After the snorkel installs we need windshield mount for the high lifts ;)

nothing much has changed on the winches or the rig. I did just place a order for two 8274 solenoid covers that AWL_TEQ makes, beautiful covers and looking forward to getting them. I'm not certain if it is acceptable to go into a winch build for your rig, on your 40 build thread but I'm gonna go with it. I have some questions/thoughts.

1. Solenoid replacement

After running through about 12 threads on solenoids for winches and those specific to the 8274 I have came up with some questions. Is the Albright solenoid pack truly the best option out there? I know alot of guys are using these however I kind of like the single solenoid replacements that others have used which is the SMP SS581x solenoids. I lIke the thought of using these because of the simplicity of replacement and ease of install. Could anyone tell me the difference between the ss581x and the ss581?

2. Winch line

I definitely want to replace the lines on both. I also know I want to use synthetic line. The 8274 is capable of holding 150 feet of line, should I replace the full 150 feet or go slightly less like 125 feet? Also what synthetic lines are you all using? I looked online but I honestly don't know crap about the synthetic lines.

3. Motors

Warn wants an arm and a leg for a motor. Is there any reliable motors out there that doesn't break the bank?

Anyways, I ordered a bunch of stuff directly from Warn Friday night for both winches like seals, gaskets, bolts, etc. I am going to go into a parts store and see if they can make the wires with the connectors I need for the power and ground as both have crappy old wiring.

Okay not to veer off track but until the throttle thing gets worked out I have decided to go ahead and start tearing down and replacing parts on both winches.

If your still having trouble with throttle body linkage I know a guy in Atlanta who I use exclusively on my first attempt for parts. I can either ask him if he can allocate one or PM me and I will give you his email. He is very very cruiser friendly and knowledgeable.

Let me know the part numbers you need from Warn nexted time I can get them all at club cost too ;) same thing on lines and fair leads :p

My wife surprised me with the same exact lift for my birthday Friday!

Nice duff! Happy belated birthday

Well I decided to go ahead and order the ss581 solenoids, since they were out of ss581x. They are 12v and run at $15.00 a piece. I picked up 8 of them. I'm still going to test my old solenoids and keep them as trail spares. Here is the link

Joel,I'm gonna give you a call later to get prices on motors/lines. I should have ordered the other stuff thru you

Sorry I missed your post, I would have told you for $100 the Albright was the way to go for complete replacement. I only needed one, so bought a $30 ss581x. There is some controversy on weather these are rated for continuous duty, you can read up in the winch section if you want. I'd go with the OEM Warns you have that work and supplement with the ones you bought. Now as far as the synthetic line, coming from a wakeboard background that uses the same technology, and seeing what the Texas sun does to tow ropes after a couple seasons ... I'm sticking to wire ;)

Tucker

Tucker,

I read up on the Albright and think I may go that route in the future. I honestly didn't go that route because the install threads seemed kind of confusing and the individual solenoid replacement seemed easier. I didn't see any threads regarding the ss581 and being continuous. Have you had any problems with your ss581 solenoids? That is probably a good idea to use the warn solenoids until the crap out.

Thank you for your insight on the synthetic lines. I didn't even think about wear from the sun. I am hoping to be out of Texas and Back north by spring of next year if the powers to be will allow it.

Did you replace the wire? If so, how much wire did you end up buying? 150ft?

oh nice, I am thinking that I might just go ahead and try to re use one of the cables as I am planning on only using one. Im not sure yet what I am going to do with the other winch. AWL_TEQ used two and i believe he decided he is going to use one on the front and then make a hitch receiver to use the second one on the rear. I doubt I will go that route because honestly I do not plan on putting myself into a situation that I would need that and two, it is just something else to worry about since there are plenty of theives in this world.

Tucker, what motor did you decide to use in your winches? I think the thread I just read said you decided to use a Db motor. Whats the result? It seems like some guys say they suck and some say they work just fine. Also, what cleaning solvent did you use?

Okay back to the winches...

I decided to de spool the cables. I tried and failed at keeping them spooled in a bucket like I saw a couple other folks. I did see that the shift plate on the operational winch is cracked which sucks. I guess I'll be ordering that part too. Anyways here are the pics.

If anyone local wants this cable, there is about 250 feet here. It's a mess and I'm just going to buy new synthetic rope. Send me a pm if you want it, if no one wants the cable, I'm going to find a dumpster Saturday to pitch it in.

Also if someone could please suggest a technique to get these damn flat head screws to break free I would really appreciate it!

Also, the oil that came out when I removed the cable came from the non operational one(due to solenoid) and it looks good. The chunks in the picture is dirt that came off the cable. No metal appears to be present.

That's what I was thinking but can't seem to find my attachments for my 1/4 drive wrench
