Aha key to success was this guy! The vibration loosened it up!

Alright so I got the motor casing and motors removed on both winches which is good. I also removed the bolts mounting the upper housing to the lower and attempted to remove it. Anyways, couldn't get the job done. I'm nervous to beat on it as I don't want to damage it. Any ideas on how to get the two cases to separate? Am I missing something?

I went with the db starter motor, time will tell if that's a good decision but I can buy three of them for what Warn wants for one :frown: Yours look to be in good shape, I'd take them to a local alternator/electrical motor shop and have them rebuilt ;) Mine was in somewhat worse shape:

Looks great man! Did you order new stickers from Warn? I'm curious if they can send you a replacement sticker for your S/N. Also how did you get the two cases to separate?

Thanks for the tip, I'll find a shop and see what they say.

Yep - just call and ask for the decal kit for an older 8274, it has a window for the S/N. I just hit the side of the upper case with a rubber mallet, be aware there is a tongue and groove along both sides of the case if you try and pry it apart ;)

I just keep whining in my head..... He has two winches I don't have any, make him share ha ha ha ha!

Brother, search craigslist or put up a wanted listing for one. I'm sure there is someone on this forum hoarding a old one in a barn underneath some rubble somewhere. It would be great to see you get your hands on one and begin rebuilding it.

Thank you by the way.

For sure! Us 73 guys have to stick together. I want one before cruise moab. Along with a long list of other stuff!

I'm definately going to watch this one as I hope to have an 8274 soon!

Great, hopefully you'll Be able to learn from my mistakes with these as I'm sure there will be a couple.

Got my new solenoids in... They appear to be the same exact style as the original warn solenoids. Except they are smurf blue, I guess that's where they came up with the "blue streak" name. I honestly thought the ones I ordered were black. Here's a couple pictures

Just looked online for the blue streak ss581. It looks like they typically run about $20 to $32 each. I purchased what Rock auto shows to be the ss581 and their image is of a black solenoid. Anyways paid $15.00 bucks a piece. Good buy, hope they work!

Linkage..

Hey Man, looks like I got enough stuff here to connect your foot pedal to the carb............

Looking good there on the winch work.......:wrench:

Awesome! I'll shoot you an email in a second! I really appreciate it Grant!

Do you think those solenoids will work I just got in? I can't find any info anywhere on if they will run continous. I know Tucker mentioned People are skeptical.

Don't know about those...
Need to be there abouts 100% duty cycle rated, if not they will stick closed under load leaving an uncontrollable situation..... seen that before, wasn't a pleasant experience..........

Thanks I'm uncertain if these are continous. This is probably my first fail in the winch rebuild. Hmm...

Just put in a master switch so you can cut off the power.

I apologize but I'm not understanding. I'm not an electrical genius so could you clarify? By putting in a switch, does this make the solenoids continous?

No - he is stating you should put a marine type isolation switch on your power to the winch. This is a good idea anyway IMO, but would allow you to kill power to the winch in the failure case before it causes damage ...

So I need to return these solenoids and get different ones.
