Our hobbies should be a form of dissent, a radical expression of our individuality, a celebration of doing things that we’re “not obliged to do.”
I read this today in an article that popped up on my Facebook feed. It is so fitting.

Congratulations on the build and write up.

Thank you!
I'd love to see your truck in a bit of the scenery there. Please feel free to add a picture or two. :)

"The main thing is to get the dizzy shaft positively connected with the oil pump... "
I wanted to add here... since I just hooked up a new advance to my diz which means I had to pull the diz out. For anyone reinstalling theirs... I marked the location of the rotor tip to the housing. As I go to drop the diz back in I turn the rotor a tad to the left of the mark (as Dave) @roadstr6 pointed out below **** I used a good light and a long flat head and gently turned the oil pump slot to match the butt end of the diz because it wasn't matching up. It takes a few in and outs but it will connect with patience.

****
The dizzy shaft has helical gears, so as it drops down, the rotor will turn a bit. If you start the process with the rotor where you want it to end up, you'll miss it by a tooth or two. Back the rotor up a smidge and drop in the diz and it will all line up.

Its official. The distilled water trick works AND I need to replace my manifold gasket. I am now pulling 20-21 on my vac gauge when the idle is up about 1k. Anything lower and she struggles to hold and fluctuates from 18-16 or less.
I instilled 32 oz of distilled water into the primary w/o choke pulled and a section of 2x4 holding the skinny pedal to 2k rpms. when I started the first bottle she bogged to a stall right away after a few squirts. I restarted and sprayed till she wanted to stall and stopped. I kept at it through two 16 oz squirt bottles. By 1/2 through the second she was able to hold her own at about 16 on the vac gauge and not stall out at all after multiple squirts in a row. I had set up a cardboard box with a jack stand for weight behind the tail pipe but saw really no evidence of carbon except one tiny piece that turned to charcoal when I touched it. I have no cat so its not getting stuck in there but my pipe is pretty rough and rusty so could be the carbon got caught along the inside walls.

When I pulled the 2x4 and she was at idle (I checked after with a timing gun and she was about 1k) she was holding steady at 20-21. As soon as I tried to lower her idle to 800 she began the flutter dance from 18-15/14 on the gauge. I took a bottle of carb spray and doused her manifold top edge and she went right up to 20-21 solid.

thanks Felicity,
I have pictures on my phone and iPad.
But I'm not sure what to do.
I haven't been able to find the upload button to attach my photos.

thenks,
Found button, but it doesn't work.
Are you using via the app or via google.
I am using google as I couldn't find the app in iTunes.
I did some searching today and it appears I may have to post more than 10 times to prove i am not a robot, before upload works on the forum.
I'll post this and count my posts to see how many.
Regards
Alex

Okay,
So I have 8 x posts.
If you google ( ford prefect summernats) and images
My little cream ute will pop up.
We have a large modified car festival in Canberra every year in January. (about 3 to 4 hours away)
We usually take the ute with the cruiser towing our caravan.
I'm not sure if appropriate for here, but this year we had Azn, Farmtruck and Cleetus McFarland turn up from the American street outlaws tv show, they were the nicest, down to earth, approachable, people you could ask to meet.
I have some pictures of this on a trailer behind the 60.
Now 9 posts
Regards Alex

@FordPrefect I'm using mud via the app on my phone. I get to it via the safari browser on my iPhone.
So your brand new to the cruiser forum. And you have a ute plus a cruiser? Lucky guy! Well you'll get up there and then you'll be able to post very soon.
It's cool to see folks from around the world. I can't even come close to imagining Australia.

Thanks,
Yes, I have been reading for a long time but only joined recently.
I had the Ford Defect first, it has lived in a shed at my parents for several decades, and is largely untouched.
The pictures flatter it.
It's. 10hp side valve English ford, with an Australian ute body.
we have 3 children 21,18 and 14. Two girls and a boy.
They didn't like camping when they were younger, as it either rained or we got attacked by bugs.
so we got an old Silver Australian Viscount caravan from 196&.
This sort of followed us home and is in remarkable original condition.
The cruiser was first used as a tow vehicle, and also came along at the right time,
The tow I had previously, was only a ford sedan and was a bit light leading to a lot of instability at speed
The 60 is also interesting. It's got a lot of factory / period accessories but is fairly untouched,
It shows it's age and Kim's and has ended up becoming my daily driver.
It's white with original springs and tired suspension bushes
It's due for a bit of work, hence my participation in Mud.
Sorry to add so much to your thread.
Alex

@FordPrefect Alex, it's all good. It's nice to hear about others esp around the world. I'm totally cool w/ you adding to my thread. It's been a tad boring as of lately anyhow. I wish my truck would fix herself at this point. It's good and bad my son will be on vaca for 10 days w/ his dad... it's means I need to get my ass moving and quick complaining.

Manifold heat sensor. It's mounted to the pcv hard pipe off the exhaust egr. Cut it off, file it, make a new ring (18g wire is what I used; it goes to the carb fan plug), then mount it to the two holes that it matches on the intake manifold. I'll get a pix in a few minutes when my battery is more charged up.

@LittleRedWgon, Scuse how ugly. Like I said that high temp exhaust rattle can paint blows. Wire is a third from the ICS. Often it's hanging out of the loam broken. Require it w/ a small ring and add it to the temp sensor and mount w/ new bolts and washers. I don't remember the size. I think whatever size holds the carb insulator plate down worked.
