Yes. First I need to call him tho to find out if I need to prep the crack or he will. I'd love to swing by and check out his place first ho before I make the big drop off. I want to get a feel for him as a welder first. He does have a heliarc welder which is awesome.
And I gather I need to clean these buggers up big time.

Ok so I've been thinking a bunch about the intake manifold... should I dip it in carb dip? at least that middle portion where the crack is?

Nix that question... found a thread on various agents.
I have a bottle of berrymans I can use and a soft brush. Then acetone to follow. Will call the welder and ask him how I should prep too prior to drop off.

For sure either you or the welder should bake the manifold. Being porous and nasty and greasy there will be oil deep in there that will drive him nuts as it will boil and burn out of there as he tries to weld. Don't know how you are about non-food stuff in your oven (really a bad idea actually but not sure of your options) but if it fits it can be baked there. Maybe you know someone with a "garage" oven?
Hopefully he can do it for you and he would want to pre-heat that big hunk of aluminum before TIG welding anyway. The temp is kind of scary as it's a balance between burning out the nasty stuff without getting hot enough to warp.

Okay I'll do some investigating and see what I can come up w/ for heating the captured oils out.

So I cleaned up the intake manifold some w/ brake clean and a nylon brush then a small stainless steel brush.
As I did this I realised the crimped intake pipe to egr plate and it's vent pipe to pcv needed to come off. Again easy. Bolts were not tight. Oddly one was a 12m and one was a 13mm. But looking into the mouth of the pipe from the plate I could see it was pretty gummed up. For hahas i tried blowing into the pipe and and found it's totally clogged.
@Cgbeachbum, this pipe goes to the positive crankcase valve I linked you to that I'd cleaned out... thought I'd point it out again as the pipe itself on mine is crazy clogged. Hence cleaning the valve out will do squat if the vapours can't even vent thru the pipe off the carb base.
So my sleuthing has shown me that two fairly big factors in venting hot gasoline vapors from the carb out could have been huge contributors to my intake cracking. 1) My carb fan (doesn't work... knew that awhile back) and now I find my carb could not even adequately vent vapors due to the 2) PCV pipe being completely clogged.
And overall the surface of my manifold flanges look pretty good even before getting a good scouring.

I would have both intake and exhaust media (soda) blasted by the machinist and then paint the exhaust with super high temp paint before assembly.
But only if you want it to look purdy...

I was planning on soda blasting it myself after I have the work done. And yes, painting it some hot rod color to go along w/ the color scheme I'm already running.

Welp she's been handed over to a guy w/ a heliarc. Youngish guy is a fellow cruiser owner too. Has a pickup that he only wheels w/. Ofcourse we showed each other a few truck pics.
He's gonna bake it to release the oils for about 20 mins. I told him this truck is my baby... he understood. I snapped a quick shot of a cool sign one of them made in the office.

Block cleaned up easily of the red rtv. Made use of the scraper I made from a scrap piece of maple.

Nice... I would take either a green or gray scotch-brite pad to is to with some brake-cleaner and make it real nice..

They aren't goobered just stuff that I've yet to clean off. I am only able to grab snippets of time to work on her while my son tries to snag my tools to lose out in the yard.

Whoever had the manifolds off before used a plethora of anti-seize on all the bolts. I believe that's what your seeing on the threads.
