Went for new ink the night I got my first vax… wanted to have ‘coercion is not consent’ but caved and decided to be less angry and leaned more on my daughters anniversary 8/26/05. Typically every certain number of years I get something in her memory on that arm. Last year was her 15th death anniversary but w/ covid I skipped going. Planning on having some old mushrooms added around the lettering eventually.

Hey, you rebuilt your steering gear box before... any tips on getting the pitman arm off the selector shaft? I spent all day yesterday “messing” with it and couldn’t for the life of me get it to budge. I broke one puller and nearly broke a second.

I separated mine while on the truck. Much easier leverage. But hitting the ball side of the arm while adding pressure from a puller might do it on the bench in a vice. The vibrations are what help relieve the tension of the shaft to the arm.

I tried both on and off the truck. I tried to get it in my press but the housing is 5mm too wide to fit. Maybe I need a bigger BFH...

I used a 2lb sledge and modified a cheap puller to make it fit around the shaft. Hit where I’m pointing… ignore the ugly surface rust. I really should have painted that thing. That was my first ever rebuild back in ‘16. Alternated hits while tightening tension w/ puller.

Call me late to the party… way late. Finally checked my timing this AM. Had a really harsh few seconds of dieseling the other day after arriving home from a long drive in the state forest w/ kid. Bf directed me to turn it back on fully (it wouldn’t shut down) and let it idle for a bit. After about 5 mins it settled and shut off.
Checked timing and I was way too advanced. It’s now 7 degrees on the bb and 13 on tdc and idle set to 650. Quiet and calmer now… realizing now I’m backwards. Will fix tomorrow
Oil, filter, fuel filter changed w/ kid. Showed him how to check differential gear oil which both were good and no signs of water migration.
Hoping to get us up to NH next weekend but found out my animal sitter needs to help her sister so not sure what I’ll do. Will keep asking around.
Let the kid sit in my lap again and do some slow driving.

I don't understand how TDC is at 13°. Shouldn't it be at 0°? Bebee at 7° btdc?
I thought the bb was before tdc, then tdc is after? Hahaha…. Have my blond roots gotten in the way again?
Ok yup… mixed up. I’ll fix it tomorrow.

Even tho I did the timing wrong. Haven’t yet been able to get back to it to adjust it.

It helps to lock your hubs and maybe due to anxiety have a second person verify you turned them the right direction. Dan, @dr_dobro asked if it was okay to crawl across my hood to lock the hubs and then while still laying there yelled “ok go!” Video will be linked soon.

Hey, it happens to all of us. A couple of us only locked in one hub on the trails at Solid Axle Summit #5, that doesn't work either. The other to-remain-unnamed errant operator has a lot more wheeling experience than me, and I've been at it for 47 years.

This was in the first 10 mins of the class six roads… I sounded soooo SAD and it went on a for a smidge longer before Dan noticed my hubs weren’t locked. Patience of a saint, so calming and couldn’t stop saying how great my driving skills were regardless of the hubs.
And then that adorable short stout woman who’s turning 70 soon who was our trail leader, Pat noticed I had no tow hooks. Once I got the hubs locked she, Badass (not Pat) just ate right thru the puddle and the entire next few hours. I did hit a few rocks pretty hard, even flipped a shackle and almost made my kid cry from fear and jostling around. Haha! We had a blast. More photos will come.
Thanks to G, @60Works I now have a few hooks he let me come grab (among a few other odds and ends he knew I needed, speakers, mounts, a stock rim) on the way home from Field and Forest.

I forgot to lock my hubs once.. so embarrassing. I forgot to unlock them once too, nobody noticed. 😄

But how about those poor souls out to help when their automatic locking hubs fail? At least we know how to fix it. 👍

Few pics from the ride. No pic of me on the flex ramp later at camp to pop the shackle back in place.

I remember when that flipped. Nailed a rock dang hard.

My first Hericium erinaceus aka lions mane. I didn’t bother to collect and even flaked to touch! Ugh. A number of them scattered in that area.

Pretty sure this is Armillaria, a variety of honey mushrooms.
