Few pics from the ride. No pic of me on the flex ramp later at camp to pop the shackle back in place.

I remember when that flipped. Nailed a rock dang hard.

My first Hericium erinaceus aka lions mane. I didn’t bother to collect and even flaked to touch! Ugh. A number of them scattered in that area.

Pretty sure this is Armillaria, a variety of honey mushrooms.

Cool. Any psilocybin cubensis?

I hear it helps with depression.
Not something I have any real interest in finding. If I want to do shrooms I’ll buy some.

I can’t say enough about how absolutely awesome and calming this Dan, @dr_dobro was as a spotter.
Thanks to @CatskillsRunner for these amazing shots!

That was a really fun day and it was a pleasure meeting you! And yes, he's awesome...I love being spotted by Daniel.

You're a great driver and I hope to share the trail with you again!

Yep, we've hung out a few times in Moab and run the Moab Daily together.

Just saw him for beers in April when I came out with my bestie to float Labyrinth Canyon.

Talk to me about a realistic trip to the Newfoundland/Labrador Strait, Cape Spear. Two year goal w/ kid. What will I need?
I actually have a place to stay on Cape Breton. My uncle took over a hunting cottage from my grandfather years ago and I have an open invite to stay at it during the summer months (when the water is on). At one time he and my aunt sent me a map, directions and Canadian cash to help me get there. He said it’s an 18 hour drive to the cottage. I just need to start a real plan.

let me be the first to welcome you to my homeland. well, you've got 2 important pcs n part of a third for your trip. map, directions n some cash. so more cash, fuel cost is non-negotiable, accommodations? how much do you want to be pampered? food, you've got a growing young lad so that cost could be all over the bank account. a reliable vehicle. in 2 years you should have the bugs worked out of BADASS n we damn well know you'll be able handle most any curve ball she might throw at you. emergency vehicle $h!t? you've been here long enough to pretty well know what you're going want/need.
you're going to newfoundland? be ready to kiss the cod :hillbilly: if you visit the viking site at l'anse aux meadows, say hi to the ghosts of my forebears. a bit of family trivia for you, my :princess: 's family is from cape breton
i hope your trip comes to fruition n is a good one

Would a portable 12v fridge in the truck be pertinent? Which means a dual battery? Hmmm.

A portable fridge is decadent and nice but takes up soooo much space and they’re heavy. Also noisy at night. Even the quiet ones. . And unless you’re driving for several hours every day to recharge the battery, you’ll need solar panel/s to power it.
I had an ARB fridge a long time ago. Those expensive jobs. It eventually got stolen when someone broke into my cruiser.
I did take one long trip with it for a few months (with solar panels) and it works great, but it pulled about 24 amps a day which needs to be replaced every day somehow. Either with 4 hours of driving or solar panels. An extra battery only acts as a buffer. You’ve got to replace the power somehow.

I took several long trips years later without that fridge and just changed my diet/food to foods that don’t need refrigeration.
I didn’t miss the fridge at all. Never.
I’m not a cold beer or dairy product kind of guy, so there isn’t much use for a fridge when none of your food requires refrigeration.

If a glass of a cold alcohol beverage is your thing at the end of the day, it’s not much of stretch to swap out a cold beer with a nip on a whiskey flask, or rum or whatever. Gets the job done just as well - and no refrigeration needed.

Getting rid of the fridge (via theft) freed up sooo much space inside the cruiser and eliminated the need to keep it powered with solar or driving.

In hindsight- my advice would be to just change your diet a tad. It’s easy and still nutritious and delicious- but just not cold.
Refrigerators inside cruisers are very expensive, heavy, bulky, noisy at night and require daily power.
All those negatives did not make a cold beer or yogurt worth the trouble (to me).

Hmmm, not sure what I’d do w/o cheese!
But I do really appreciate your words of wisdom, they always make so much sense. And I suppose a RTT is really unnecessary too. 🤣

A RTT is totally unnecessary- but they look like fun for sure.
Other than they are also a huge wind drag.
