Around here (low desert Arizona) you see 2 formulae for windshield washer fluid - summer/normal, and winter.
But even in winter, most stores here only carry the summer version, 'cause it only barely sometimes gets down to freezing.
The winter version may be common in cold places like Flagstaff, don't know.
I'm sort of assuming only the winter formula has 30% methanol, for it's antifreeze effect.
What can you tell us about that?
Also, any concern over small amounts of detergents / surfactants, or blue/green dyes for engine injection?
Have you found any other sources of low cost methanol?
Would denatured alcohol from the hardware store work OK? (which I think is mostly ethanol, poisoned with some methanol).
How about isopropyl?
Joey was asking what scent air fresheners would go best offroad.
I only pioneered making it look good![]()
Just yesterday, I was telling myself, "No, you don't need meth injection. You don't even know what it is." And now, I have been convinced that meth is for me. Jinkies, never thought I'd say that. Thanks guys! Happy 4th, suck it England!![]()
Yeah but the you cant roll down the windows.Kevlar door panels.......
Bulletproof glass.......
I have been reading about guys using meth kits on the M56 with direct injection to keep the intake valves clean, apparently it’s a real problem in all the direct injected (gas) motors.Ryan, any benefit for meth injection for the N/A crowd?
Since I now stock the 1FZ power steering pump rebuild kit : 80 Series 1FZ Power Steering Pump Rebuilt Kit
...figured I might as well rebuild my own pump. Then I start goofing around with some ideas and testing some materials, and made a Wits’ End version of Jim’s (@midfat) badass original idea and made a gear handle out of wood then ABS. Settled on ABS and cut out a bunch of them because it’s just too damn handy. Negates the need for a leather glove and nut comes off and on crazy easy.

Correct me if i am wrong, but would the purple windshield wash fluid be more desirable in this application? Or what about mixing your own formula with a bottle of concentrate? Just want to learn as much as I can. Thank you.
For an OBDII 1FZE truck the most desirable would be just plain distilled water, the only reason the methanol needs to be added is for freeze protection. If it is the middle of summer you could run cheap plain distilled water and get the most cooling benefit. I only run windshield washer fluid because I have a single large tank for; washing my windows, cooling my intercooler and spraying water/meth.
There is no need to over think this. In open loop there is already more fuel than we need, there is no need to add extra methanol. If you have a separate tank from your windshield washer fluid run straight water with as little methanol as needed to keep it from freezing. If you want to mix your own that is fine, if you want to have the ease and convenience of using windshield washer fluid that is fine too.
I would be cautious using any windshield washer fluid that was purple or orange or had "debug" or water repellant on it. Just plain old blue with water, methanol and blue dye.
