Took L/R window regulator out because the window has never worked without the aid of pushing or pulling, and about 15 min. I tested the motor out of the vehicle and it is just as bad.

So I disassembled the motor to check for dirty contacts, and everything looks nice and clean. However the brushes are worn out pretty bad. Are these brushes replaceable, or will I need to order a new motor?

Toyota does not service any internal components. The factory repair is a new motor assembly. There could be something aftermarket at some sort of electrical supply outlet. It will be a treasure hunt.

Dan is right on about having to go on a treasure hunt for a replacement motor. I believe NXTACY (I might have the wrong member) went through a similar situation, so a search may give some info. Does the motor have any markings on it...serial #, model #, etc? Any pictures of the motor?

Hi, At one time the motors could be found on ebay for .25 to .50 cents . I wish I would have bought more of these but I only bought what I needed at the time. Mabuchi motors. Most of my cruisers were manual windows at the time, probably 10-15 years ago. These motors still sell on ebay for about 6.00 apiece. I can't remember the model no. Any more. Mike

I know people have found replacement door lock motors, but I haven't seen anyone find a replacement window motor yet. I'm sure it can be done with enough google searching/trial and error.

Thanks guys. Window motor is easy to find. They run about $45 to $65 a piece. Was trying to find the brushes for the motor. Looks like I'll have to order the Dorman brand motor. I can't justify spending 200-300 for OEM....

Is there anything else that could go wrong with the motor besides the brushes? I suppose bearings or bushings could wear out. Do the magnets get weak?

I pulled the front left driver's motor twice stubbornly wanting to keep my 80 as it was born. Cleaned it, put in synthetic grease, better ground wire, lithium grease on the window seals, etc. No dice. Bought a motor from Rock Auto for around $50 delivered and it operates as fast as new. It's been about 3 years with no change. So, it may not be worth the trouble if for instance your motor's housing bushings bind a bit with torque applied, etc. I have the motor laying on a shelf if you need any numbers off the housing, etc.

I figured the same. I already have a motor coming from Amazon.

Funny how we keep old parts.........

and you installed these motors and they were perfect now?

In a window race with the kids, the new motored window wins everytime. Only one replaced. Thinking of replacing the other three because it works that well....

Spoke too soon, the brushes do fit the guides but they are too long. Also they are softer material than OEM.

If it moves, then stops and you have to wait for it to cool down before moving again, the thermal fuse is probably shot

I'm actually on the hunt for a replacement fuse, but may end up doing a bypass or just replace the motor altogether if I can't find one :meh:
