Door Hinge bushings

I don't think the bushings will fit my '68. Did some years not use them? Or maybe there's just rust/dirt in the way and I need to sand them a little?

I drilled the hinge out to 7/16".

Installed bushings

I used a vice to press them in, and a file to thin the shoulder for a perfect fit.

The hinges now work better than new.

I did a similar thing with some I found that were getting chucked out at work.

I spun a bit off the flange on the lathe and drilled them out slightly.

I did windshield hinges and the doors. Soooo much better.

White spooge is neverseize

I rarely found any good stuff when I was at Yeehaw. The department I theoretically work in now rarely throws out a paper clip and you get all kinds of neat sh!t

It’s a very worthwhile upgrade. I never had OEM bushings to compare them to, but they bronze bushings work great and are well worth the effort.

OEM were thin plastic. Disintegrate if you look at them wrong, probably first time the doors get removed half of them get lost.

It’s 2” of slightly under. Sprinkle pipe is 1.9375 so the scrap yard should have some.

Looks like someone got lazy and just drilled straight through and probably sandwiched it with a carriage bolt. Support rail was squashed on the driver side. I cut it out and replaced it with 1/8th steel with a bolt welded on the blind side.

I know the feeling. I’m almost finished the front axle swap and refurb and I’ve had too many hours/days with ice cold fingers. Several of the days were +/- -9* and I didn’t enjoy it at all. I found I had to break it up into chunks because of the cold.

Definitely! My wood stove is 6 feet from my shop so….. work/warm up.

Well…… who ever did the engine swapped used the tranny hole for the OM transmission which was about 2” further forward than the h55 hole. Not in the bandeirante. So instead of hacking the engine mounts off, transmission, new drive shafts. I decided to modify the heater. Minimal heat for the toes now but these weren’t really designed for comfort.

Slowly deleted the old heater core, cut new holes for the Canadian blower motor. This is truly becoming a hybrid. Some more plumbing and window defrost vents to be cut. So far it’s still a win. 3 steps forward, one back.

All the forward gears are touching the heater core but should still be fine.
