I don't think the bushings will fit my '68. Did some years not use them?

Or maybe there's just rust/dirt in the way and I need to sand them a little?

I'll need to drill hinge out to 7/16", but for $1 each I'm going to give it a go.

I had to drill some of my hinges for the last round of brass bushings. They were out of round. If you have to tap the brass ones in at all the pins will not fit in them. They are not forgiving for out-of-round hinges.

SouthBostonFJ,

I'll take a set as well... do you have anything for a stock spare tire carrier?

do you have anything for a stock spare tire carrier?

The Toyota part number for spare tire carrier bushings is 90386-16004. It comes with two plus two bushings for where the hard top poles go into the tub. You need two packs to do both hinges of the tire carrier.

Thanks Fast Eddy... i've added them to my list

They are now for sale in the classifieds.

Nsk. FF413-2 Oilite Bushing

I've ordered some and will let you all know how they work out.
Flanged bushing
Told "5/16 id 7/16 od"
Bushing 0.3135 id
Bushing 0.4395 od
9/16 od Flange
1/16 flange thickness

I'll need to drill hinge out to 7/16", but for $1 each I'm going to give it a go.

I may also step up to a 5/16" hinge pin if the stock one is too loose.

Installed a set of 8. My hinges haven't had bushings for 20+ years so the holes were no longer round. I drilled the holes out to 7/16" and pressed in the new bushings. The shoulders require a little filing, but the fit can be perfect for those worn hinges. Mine swing smoothly and are snug enough that they slow down when you let go. :D

Retail cost... $10.00 +tax. No shipping.

Worn hinges

After 20+ years with no bushings the holes weren't round anymore.

I used a 7/16" bit to make them round again. Then installed some new oversized bushings.

Installed bushings

I used a vice to press them in, and a file to thin the shoulder for a perfect fit.

The hinges now work better than new.
